Guten Abend Arriva

Postby wobblybob » Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:06 pm

So Deutsche Bahn is now set to takeover Arriva plc. New liveries for ATW and XC perhaps?

DBR already own a large part of Chiltern and WSMR. No new liveries there.

True, but EWS was re-branded and I suspect they are unlikely to wish to retain the Arriva brand for ATW.

Not a huge rebrand, three repaints...

It depends on what the terms of the sale and agreement are
As I understand it the "Arriiva" brand must remain in use for a minimum of 5 years
Equally, using it will keep the Competition Commission at bay, as these are then clearly defined brands

Aha, keeping the brand for five years. That's interesting. No doubt the spat between Arriva and WSMR, over the latter's planned Wrexham-London service, will quietly die away. I understand that Arriva is the second largest train operator in Germany and that DB is quite willing to off load those German operations in order to keep EU regulators happy. Interesting times.

DB Regio are now operating Tyne & Wear Metro. They've only made slight alterations to the branding on the uniforms and posters, dropping the former Nexus logo. No livery changes. Of course, Nexus still own everything.

Doubt there will be any livery changes on XC, its already "non-Arriva" branded anyhow!

Very welcome by the front line staff is this takeover.

it will be interesting to see what happens to the Arriva brand after 5 years, whether it becomes DB or stays as Arriva or changes to something completely different

as my dad is an employee of arriva i get to hear a lot of things about it, the 158s are being refurbished and rebranded to have arriva db on it. it will stay the blue and white livery but in some other way. plus with this new signalling on the cambrian, the 158s are not compatible so there is a rumour that 170s are to be used on the aberystwyth to birmingham section while the 158s will be machynlleth tywyn and north. any more info needed just ask and i will get it for you.

Some if not most of the ATW fleet of 158s are fitted with the new ERTMS system being used on the Cambrian however its still an on-going trial.

I think the competition commision is only concerned with who owns a company, not what logo is painted on the side. Arrive won the franchise, but now they've sold it to DB I can't see any reason why they can't paint DB on the side, after all, that's what they did with EWS.

yeah near enough all the 158s have the ertms fitted, but they all seem to have there own little faults, the 170s will not have these problems as they are more modern than the 158s. plus the cambrian steam trips are having a protable ertms thingy which SHOULD be ready for the 2011 season. but as you know, network rail say when they wan ti but it could be another few years (ertms) before it happens. this is also why the ertms is being put back so much, as the 158s dont like it.
