Decoders 36-558A 6-pin 2-function decoder

Post by Pip196059 »

Hi back in 2015 i bought two Graham Farish trains one was in a set with decoder fitted and the other was on its own without a decoder. I bought 3 of these decoders 36-558A 6-pin 2-function decoders. I put one in the new train and thought i would use the other two in new trains. For one reason or another i stopped using my trains etc. Now i have started again i find they no longer make the decoders i bought will they still work in newer graham farish trains.

The decoders will still work. The base spec for DCC is still the same, and the motors still run on the same low voltage DC supply from the decoders. (I know folks with 25 year old decoders in regular use, and there will likely be someone here with even older DCC decoders in their locos.)

Obviously enough, check carefully for the DCC decoder socket on your purchases. The 'Next18' DCC decoder socket is now being used more frequently than it was 5 years past. (As the count implies this offers more functions than a six pin decoder.)
