I have to agree with Bigmet, although that doesn't mean there isn't the odd bad or faulty mechanism out there. My experience includes Bachmann's 4 CEP (x6), 2 EPB (x5) and MLV (x5) EMUs, 2H DEMU (x3), one newer class 150 DMU (older ones have a different arrangement), two Derby 108s, and a Cravens 105, all of which run silently and work well together in multiples.

The OP may just have been unlucky. Hopefully Bachmann will sort it, or he will be able to buy another and it will run the way we expect it to.
