Class 70 snowplough problem

Postby scottw » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:29 pm

Trying to fit the snowplough thing on the front,I've used the one with the cut out in for the coupling to go through, but it is causing the coupling and bogie to ride up at the front and not level, causing running problems.any ideas....

Sit the loco on a flat surface and swing the bogie from side to side to see where it is catching.

If you can't see anything, turn it over and whilst keeping the bogie level to the body, do the same.

Is the snowplough sat correctly on the chassis, there are some bosses I think that it sits over ?

Are the body and chassis clipped together at the front correctly ?

I have five of these and not had a single problem with the bogies.

Here are some photos showing the issue, the first two show the snowplough up tight to the underframe, and the bogie pulling up at the front caused by the coupling sitting on the plough .

The second 2 show the plough not tight to th underframe, but with a 3mm gap

Any ideas why ?

I suggest you remove the plough and try the loco without it.

Just to see if it is definitely the plough.

Or pull the coupling hook from the NEM pocket.

Something a miss on the second picture, the bogie doesn't look parallel to the body.

Does the bogie swing freely on a flat surface ?

When plough is not fitted it runs fine and moves freeley
When plough fitted it is tight and pulled up to the body by the coupling nem socket

Try the other snow plough as a matter of interest.

I will take some photo's of my 70's tonight and the snowploughs just to see if there is an issue..

There should be loads of clearance for the hook to swing in.

Is the coupling hook pushed into the seat all the way, is it fouling the top or bottom of the snowplough ?
