GWR Tank DCC Fitted

Postby georgehgv » Wed Oct 31, 2012 7:00 am

Hi. I have the loco above and have great trouble coding the chip to move off slowly. When I start it I can hear the motor begin to whirr but it doesn't move for about 5 seconds at least. Have tried changing acceleration and deceleration but seems to make no difference. The same when deceleration, should I try changing the speed steps? I use a Hornby Select and can change other locos acc and dec but not this one. Is it incompatible or is there something else? Thanks, I am new here and fairly new to model railways after years since childhood train set!

Depends if the CV you need to access can be addressed on the Select.

The CV you want to adjust is CV2, starting voltage. You try small increases in the value set in CV2, until the loco will just start moving on speed step 1.

The set up of a factory installed decoder will have been made against whatever system voltage the factory DCC test system had. If your system happens to put out a significantly lower voltage, then this is the type of effect you could expect to see.

OK thanks :) I had that loco with a CT Elektronik sound chip and the slow running was excellent.

I can't think off the top of my head which setting to change, But I do know as you are using a select not all the CVs are able to be edited
Hopefully one of the people more Au Fais with the Select and its limitations can advise

Unfortunately the Select is not capable of altering any CVs apart from the address (two digits 0 - 59 only) speed steps, acceleration, deceleration and default direction.

OK thanks, so what I really need then is someone near Reading who could change the CV2 for me. Any nice people round that area? :D
