Nice surprise!

Postby ngresley » Sat Jan 30, 2010 9:14 pm

Recently bought a Bachmann class 24 diesel (32-325) from local model railway specialist. Didn't have a "DCC Ready" sticker on it, so shop owner thought I'd need to solder a decoder in. Decided I'd have to learn some day, so bought it plus solder decoder. Got it home, ran it in on DC, took the body off and WOO-HOO!!! It had an eight-pin DCC socket on it.

Had an eight-pin Bachmann decoder for another project, stuck that in and it was a very happy little DCC loco. Said specialist will exchange solder decoder for an eight-pin next time I'm out there.

Checking up on-line I note that 32-325 is listed as DCC ready. So... moral of the story is that even if the box doesn't say it's DCC ready, it may still have a DCC socket.

Could this be down to new releases all being DCC Ready? Seems strange that all new locos don't have some way of telling if they are dcc ready or not. Then again there is normally a sticker on the underside on the bachmann locos I have had stating "DCC Ready" "DCC on board" :)

Doesn't it normally say on the end of the box..

But also the product code is a give away XX-XXXDC is DC onboard and XX-XXXDS is DCC sound on-board...

The newer boxes also have the 8 or 21pin decoder symbol..
