2ft x 6ft.

Often one says one can't find the space. One may see some space saving 7mm narrow gauge layouts but may want to use factory made locos and rolling stock. Have you seen 0n30 which is the American version of 7mm narrow gauge? Bachmann make models in this scale. If one is careful in locomotive and rolling stock choice one should be able to fit it in a small space. Don't expect some of their larger locos to fit on a small layout though!
While browsing in the past I found this.

https://youtu.be/l45hpcCTrEw

It is not just Bachmann that have ventured into the realms of 7mm narrow gauge. Fleishmann has also been there in the past with their "Magic train" range (0e) and these sometimes come up for sale on secondhand trade stands. The locos look well made and intricate. I have never tried one but I know that Fleishmann are well known for their quality so one should not be dissapointed. It is worth a look as they look ideal. I have noticed that their rolling stock is slightly wider than my stock, but not by much.

I remember seeing Fleishmann's Magic Train in the shops and thinking "that has possibilities" unfortunately it didn't develop much interest in NG circles. 0-16.5 hadn't really developed at the time, the stock looked just right for some butchery, but it wasn't around for long enough to be recognised.
Growing old, can't avoid it. Growing up, forget it!

2'X 6' (60cm X 180cm) is plenty!!!

It depends of one's hability to drop all ideas, expectations and desires and make instead this simply question: what can I do in the available space?

All the energy usually spent in regretting what can't be done is then available for giving true reality a new good look and find out.

I have seen more than a few layouts that size... in 1/32 scale!

Regarding rolling stock, you may like to discover Roger Chiver's 'CHIVERS FINELINES KITS'.
His great idea of designing & producing short wagons and coaches to go with the Bachmann's 0n30 PORTER locos was working great before Bachmann noticed the opportunity. And Roger made a great job. Specially with his beautiful "WAY CAR"...

https://www.five79.co.uk/Narrow-Gauge/

But there was -he passed away not long ago- Roy C. Link. He was a professional modelmaker and built amazing models at request but had also an own range, later overtaken by "WRIGHTLINES" and later sold again to a British gentlemann whose name I can't recall.
From that range are the skip chasis you may have seen in my scenes but, appart from the 7mm 16,5mm gauge he had a good range of 7mm 14mm gauge locos and wagons that includes all the materials for building track and ponints in 14mm gauge.

And, not to forget, there is a whole range, specially in the UK of what is called 'cottage industries' and are mostly not much more than the owner, a spare room and lots of true passion.

Beside all that here something usefull:

And about 'no space for a layout in 7mm scale narrow gauge here Giles Favell's RC symphony:

Strange. Chivers kits. When one clicks on 0-16.5 it shows kits it says are 009.

I was looking to buy a few Chivers kits and had been saving ready but then they changed hands and understandably it takes time to start getting them back into production.

Hi Mountain

Here a German thread on building a narrow gauge 1/32 layout on a 60cm X 100cm baseboard.

It is in German but the ohotos are very explicit...

Mountain

(Last link for the time being)

This layout is 2m. X 1m.
Yes, almost twice yours.
But this one is 7/8 scale which is 1/13.3. That means reduced to 7mm scale would be less than 35cm X 60cm and not boring at all:

Hi Mountain

May be you would like to see this album.
It is Gn15 (1/22 scale) in very small space but good for lot's of switching and ready to take any desired expansion:

De last years the whole field of RC has evolved a lot.
There is an incredible fast growing range of batteries available but you can also make your own buy arranging the desired number of cells to fit your needs provided one has a bit of understanding in the matter ... which I don't.

If you want a battery for a whole weekend show that would be tricky but with a small battery you can already run an 1/32 scale loco for a couple of hours. But in case of such a show one can have a couple of full uploaded extra batteries...

In Youtube and some forums you can see a lot of H0e and even N scale trains running under RC

The tiny DelTang RC boards have also brought excellent electronics in tiny space already ten years ago or so.
