Peco SL-500 & SL-100

Hello,
It's question about Peco SL-500 and SL-100 track:
They are all "code 100" but is it exactly the same rail ? Can I connect them together without any issue ?

They're different guage right? SL-500 is narrow? In which case the rails may well be code 100 in height, but the horizontal gap between them won't be the same. The 4' in standard guage is not the case for narrow.

I found an answer in a French forum: SL-500 and SL-100 can work together without any issue (same gauge and same rails).

I thought I should check out the source and apart from a comment on one item, I couldn't find (by following a logical series of choices) anything on the Peco website to confirm that 0/16.5 track uses exactly the same profile as 00 code-100. Both the same height, yes, but compatible with standard 00 track only a comment under one particular item that 00 set and flexi track could be used to expand the range.
As a comparison 00/9 and standard N gauge rails cannot simply be joined together due to the extra buried flange on the bottom of the N gauge rail.
So I don't think it was unreasonable for Beynac to seek the benefit of others experiences. The English in some of his postings may seem a little simplistic but then I guess it's not his first language. The explanation of why he was asking, poses a question that I think most of us could not answer, "Is there an equivalent French phrase for Armchair Modelling?" If there isn't* then how would he translate the activity into English.

The track gauge is identical ie 16.5mm . SL500 is designed for 0-16.5 scale models or 0N30 and SL100 is designed for use by HO/OO modellers . The sleeper spacing and size is different on the SL500 track so joining the two might be a problem

The major question is the rail section, for a good connection with fishplates they need to be the same, sleeper height can easily be overcome. From the comments on the Peco website (helpfully only as a remark on the details of some points) is that the sections are the same.

I bought one length of Peco SL-500 just for a try with a Peco ST-221 (fortunately I already have one).

It works ! There is just a slight difference between the height of the sleepers.

Thanks for the picture Beynac. Well the rolling stock will negotiate that, but from an aesthetic point of view they do look quite different. Not sure how to disguise that....
