Gn15 on the cheap!

Post by Roberto »

I dont usually attempt to scratchbuild locos, preferring to run RTR oo gauge. However, my attention was drawn to an article in Railway Modeller on the modelling of a narrow gauge locomotive, using a oo gauge chassis , obviously running on oo 16.5mm track.
The locomotive body is built to approx. 1/22.5th scale.(where 1 inch(or 25.4mm) on the model is equal to 22.5 inches on the prototype), so that the oo gauge track represents a prototype track gauge of 15inches. i.e 16.5 / 25.4 X 22.5 = 14.6inches.
I have used the chassis from a Hornby "Caley" Pug , and the loco body is constructed from plastic card. The cab roof is a section of plastic cola bottle! The driver is from an accessory kit for 1/24th scale plastic model trucks.

Ive also built a wagon, and flat truck in 1/22.5th scale from plastic card and wood, using the chassis from oo gauge trucks.

Recently had a short break in North Wales, and was inspired to build a small layout for my scratchbuilt Gn15.

Ive also built a carriage from cardboard and matchsticks. It fits over a OO Hornby carriage.

Also noticed it was in 2012. Is your little railway still running?
