ESU is a tradename, like Zimo or Hornby or Lenz.
In this context V4 is a type of ESU sound decoder. The respondent is trying to tell you a Zimo decoder will have an MX model code not a V4 code.

Just a quick follow up post. I didn't bother getting the DCC fitted set. I instead went for the loco-drive DCC ready set, so if I in the future I do want to go down this route it's easy enough. It should be arriving something this week, hopefully I'll get to the door before my wife or I'll have some explaining to do...
