Arduino / DCC++ power supply

Postby Giraffe » Tue Nov 20, 2018 7:16 am

For anyone out there using an Arduino/DCC++ system, what DC voltage are you supplying to the motor shield? The best I've had to hand is a max 12v supply, but this only results in ~10v AC to the tracks and the decoders are then pumping out max ~6v (DC) to the loco motors.

You can go higher on the shield power, ie 18v but remember you then have to cut the link supplying power to the Arduino, and still use 12v supply for that.

Only use 12v on mine but not noticed any limitation, but I don't need to run anything fast on my layout.
