Sound is usually turned On/Off via the F1 function. Assuming the loco has a sound decoder fitted!

As for programming, the Select is limited and can only set addresses 1 to 59 but you should be able to change the loco from the default address of 3 to 1 or any other number up to 59.
Once LA is displayed press a numeric key (or two keys for two digit numbers) to enter the new number required e.g. press key number 1. Do not enter 01 just 1. The display should flash 01. Now press the Select button and the loco will be programmed to address 1. The red LED will flash up to seven times during which the decoder will be accepting the new address. If the LED flashes eight times, it is advisable to re-programme the decoder again.

Failure to programme can be caused by several things. Dirty rails and /or dirty wheel rims on the loco are the most common two causes. So always clean the rail tops and the loco pick up wheels before attempting to programme a loco.

Hi, thanks for your assistance. Still the same problem. Everything works using DC controller, makes great sounds. Nothing except moves with DCC controller.
Have another loco with DCC fitted arriving next week, see if that is any different. Do old people always complicate simple things ?.
Thanks again

What decoder ?
I have come across decoders that simply won't work with a Select.
I mainly use Selects and the one I know wouldn't work from the last
ones I bought were TCS.
What I don't have are many sound locomotives - just 2 both Bachmann
diesels with factory fitted decoders.

By saying the Bachmann system works it can't you change the address
on that ? This of course will be no help if the sound functions don't
respond. Is the Bachmann controller DC ?

Thanks Geoff, I assume the decoders are Hornby. I have now contacted them and await their reply.
The trains run on the select as 03, the sounds work, magic, just for the life of me cannot get to re address them.
The Bachman controller is DC.only.
Any other suggestions would be glad of,
Cheers
