Hornby HST

Postby thebritfarmer » Tue May 01, 2012 9:32 pm

Maybe a bit of a stupid question but............

Would I cause any problems (to loco or DCC system/layout) if I placed the old 1980s dummy HST car on my DCC layout. I was thinking of using it as a scenic piece in a siding or in a shed.

Thanks
Scott

I think it would be ok as long as there are no pick ups on the dummy HST power car for lights. If there are they would most likely blow.

Unlikely! The lights will just stay on. From memory, they only have headlights not taillights so it won't look odd but if they did have taillights too, both head and tail lights will illuminate at the same time.

It will not short out anything and the lights will be quite able to take the DCC current and voltage.

I used to run an old HST on my dcc layout, the power car had a decoder fitted but the dummy was just left as standard, the lights (white) stayed on all the time, there also was a little high ptich squeek, but you coulnt really hear it when other trains were running. I was there for a good year or 2 until I sold it, didnt have any problems
