new video

I've been playing around with some new editing software, and using a micro-camera to try and get some different angles. Here's the results, hope you like them.

Re: Bachmann 4F

Post by GeoFF03 »

Just taken delivery of one of Bachmanns new Fowler 4F 0-6-0s. Detail and performance on a par with their earlier Johnson 3F, with the added bonus of tender pick-ups on two of the axles. Only possible fly in the ointment that I can see so far, none of the drivers are sprung and very little lateral play on any of the wheels. This could cause problems on uneven track and tight curves. Had it on pre-order from Rails of Sheffield so got it for £76 post free. How Hornby could dream of charging what the did for the re-vamped Airfix version is beyond me. On to the photos:

and by way of contrast, with an old Airfix example in the background.

I received a surprise in the post today. An almost forgotten pre-order from OnTracks turned up after nearly 2 years. It contained an exclusive loco from Electrotren, an 0-6-0ST Taff Vale. Here she is in action after running in.

December has proved to be an expensive month, with several new acquisition's being added to to loco and coach fleets.

Firstly, one of the Hornby Olympic sets, this one representing the 1948 Games

Bought for £90 in Hornbys pre-Christmas sale.

Next there was my first Heljan model, the Class 16

This has proved to be a rather slow locomotive when compared to my others from Bachmann. It's even slower than the next Heljan item, a Class 14.

Lastly, there was a rake of 5 Hawksworth coaches picked up in Hornbys end of year clearance sale. Here's a quick video of some of the new items in action.

I've just looked at your pictures for the first time in a while. I particularly like the pictures of the Taff Vale tank, it looks very smart - do you notice the smaller scale (1:87) in ordinary use?

As its similar in size to the Hornby terriers or the L&Y pug, its only real gave-away is the hight of the buffers and at normal viewing distances I don't pay that much notice.

Two new additions arrived from Liverpool and Sheffield earlier this week, A Bachmann N Class and a Heljan W&M railbus.

A short video of them being put through their paces. The sound efects are from a Train-Tech sound module which is motion sensitive (a little too sensitive at times, passing trains or moving points can set it off).

A couple of new additions have been added to my small fleet of ex-Southern locos. First up was a Hornby Schools class "Epsom"

followed by a Hornby N15 King Arthur class "Sir Meleaus de Lile".

Plus a video of the Southern stock in action, minus Sir Meleaus de Lile which arrived too late to be included

Yet another new loco arrived at the weekend, the new Bachmann 1F. I've still to add any of the extra details (vacuum and steam heat pipes, cosmetic three link couplings, coal shovel & rolled tarp for the edge of the cab roof).

Just take a look at the cab detail, Bachmann have really gone to town on it!

Hi Geoff,

A grand little loco. I had the LMS version on back order then cancelled
as it was obviously at least a year away. Now beginning to regret the
move as I love little 0-6-0 tank engines ..... in fact even 0-6-0 tender
locos.

Latest addition to the stock fleet, a Class 35 Hymek from Heljan

Image

A birthday/Xmas present to myself. Lovely smooth and quiet runner, but the illuminated head codes are a waste of time. It needs to be run at full speed and in pitch darkness for them to be seen :)

It's been a while since I posted to this thread. Several new additions have arrived in the meantime, so rather than post individual photos of each of them I have several videos which include them. Steam locos include a WD, 7F and E4 from Bachmann, plus the new 700 class from Hornby, with a Class 23 "Baby Deltic" from Heljan.

That's a beautiful layout you've built there. I love the J94s.
