Mid Hants Gala 8th March 2014

Postby kieranhardy » Tue Mar 11, 2014 2:51 pm

Definitely one for the SR enthusiasts with no less than three Bulleids in service (one being 35028 'Clan Line') plus three maunsell machines, Met No. 1 & 9F No. 92212. During the weekend there were a total of 7 Bulleids at the MHR with 34007 'Wadebridge', 34016 'Bodmin' (Awaiting overhaul & transport away from the MHR) , 34051 'Winston Churchill' (Undergoing cosmetic restoration), 34058 'Sir Frederick Pile' (Awaiting restoration) 34105 'Swanage' (Undergoing overhaul) plus the two visitors 34046 & 35028.

'Timeless' is springs to mind when I look at that second photo - nothing that I can see to show that it wasn't taken in 1967 - only the loco's a bit cleaner than it would probably have been then! Well captured.

Kieran obviously has a photographer's eye for the most excellent photos - witness the last one above.

Thanks very much for your kind comments. :)

The last shot posted on here is a bit of trickery I do admit. The trio didn't actually occur, at least not during my visit. Whilst 35028 was sitting to the left 34007 passed with the goods, after that 34046 proceeded forward passing 35028 and reversed into the cattle dock siding. I got shots of this all happening so had a go at editing 34046 into the shot to give all three. I don't usually photoshop my images but the chance of getting a shot of all three at Alresford even if it was cheating was too much to resist!

That last shot could only be in preservation. Two loco's too many and a thousand or so too many onlookers :) Darned good photos all the same, even if you resorted to some photoshopery.

Had to go back and look for the join, the lefthand rail has a slight wobble, and in amongst the steam the tommy bar through the screw coupling appears to be resting on the top of the water column in the foreground.

Oh, to have been there!! A phenomenal line up - especially with Clan Line being there. Photoshopped or not the last pic here is a fantastic image of what (maybe) never was but looks so amazing for someone like me who loves the West Country, Merchant Navy and Battle Of Britain classes.

So sad to see Bodmin so derelict but hopefully she will steam again, one day …………

Great pictures, Kieran and thank you for the chance to see an event I missed but would so have like to attend.
All change! All change! This train terminates here.
