East Anglia Transport Museum 22nd June.

Postby kieranhardy » Fri Jun 28, 2013 10:12 am

Paid a visit to the East Anglia Transport Museum on Saturday, first time since i was a child. A very interesting place to visit with plenty to see.

Greeting us at the main entrance, Amsterdam Tram car No. 474 stands next to Sheffield Tram No. 513. Derby Corporation Trolley bus No. 224 stands next to them, it wasn't in service for that day.

No. 513 passes another trolley bus not in service on that day, Ashton-Under-Lyne Corporation BUT No. 87.

No. 513 again near the woodland area:

Yet another Trolley bus, and again not in service however made a brief run, Belfast Corporation Sunbeam Trolley bus No. 246, just sticking out the depot is Bournemouth Corporation Sunbeam No. 202.

The two trams stand side by side:

Inside one of the display sheds was steam roller 'Stormer':

The trolley bus that was in service was Maidstone Corporation Transport No. 52, she passes Eastern Counties No. VR385:

No. 513 passes the Trolleybus depot:

No. 52 passes the mock shop front, the building is actually part of the depot:

No. 474 passes the same location:

Inside the sheds, London Transport tram No. 1858, i believe this one was running on my first ever visit:

No. 513 passes on another run:

The Trolleybus passes the tram depot:

Back to the sheds, Blackpool tram No. 159 & AEC Reliance No. 85:

The museum is also home to a short 2ft gauge line known as the East Suffolk Light Railway which opened in 1973. One of the resident Simplex Motorail engines No. 5 'Oxfordness' (built in 1964) passes:

474 pauses:

513 & 52:

513 stands at the terminus overlooked by two buses, Lowestoft Corporation No. 21 & 66.

Fantastic photos as ever Kieran, you wouldn't believe that in most towns and cities and not a million years back, that the roads had all that gear strung up for trams and trolley buses. I like the Ashton-Under-Lyne Corporation livery. :)

Kieran,
For those of us unable to get to these places for whatever reason, the photos are excellent and greatly appreciated. Many many thanks.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Not been to the place for several years, it's not huge but full of atmosphere and i admit i had more fun walking around the place watching things pass than actually travelling on them!

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I didn't know such a place existed. Will have to put that down as one to visit.

Cheers again,

It's easy to miss if you don't know the area, opposite a modern housing estate with the signs behind a fence (helpful!). The entrance is a normal house.

Well worth a couple of hours visiting though.
