Last Regular Service Day Met Line A-Stock Wed 26th September

Postby PeterH » Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:04 pm

How do all.

After 52 years of dedicated service to the Metropolitan Line, the A60/62 units which have proved so successful over the years are finally being retired. They are the oldest regular working stock on the mainland.

The timings for its last day of public service is set out below.

First Service 08:01 Wembley Park - Watford.

Amersham..10:47....13:47....16:46
Watford......... -...........-...........-
Harrow
Aldgate........11:59...14:59.....18:01

Aldgate........12:11....15:11....18:08
Amersham....13:26....16:26...... -
Watford................................19:07
then
Watford................................19:17 (Expected last working).
Harrow.................................19:39 (May proceed empty to Wembley Park).

It is expected that one Driving Motor Car will go to the London Transport Museum and one Sandite-equipped train (5-cars) will remain in service.

There is also a special tour which will run on Saturday 29th September 2012 priced at £40. See the London Transport Museum website for more details.

I will be out and about on Wednesday enjoying the last day on the A-stock. If you also visit, The Land of Liberty near Chorleywood station is a good CAMRA pub to visit.

I am led to believe that on the Farewell Tour on Saturday 29th September they got the train up to 74 mph near Dollis Hill.

Thanks for posting the photos. The changeover seems to have happened so quickly. It seems no time at all since I was surprised by the unusual sight of an S-stock train coming into the station. Glad I had a ride around on the A-stock while I had the chance.

I did the Amersham-Central London commute in the mid-'80s - never thought that these were then only half way through their service life!
