Thank You,

Off to work now but I'll post the original later. The picture was cropped slightly and the contrast and saturation altered slightly. The big change though was to the sky but that will be easier to see by comparing the two.

A bit late but here is a copy of the original pic of a 14xx on the Dean Forest Railway. The major alteration was to get rid of the cloud with trees. I felt this would give more impact to the steam. Also the saturation and contrast was altered which I feel gives the trees a "painting" like quality. This wasn't intended, I rather rushed it. The camera was an Olympus C740, just a basic digi camera. I only went and took the pic as I was bored one sunday morning, saw the sunshine and decided to pop up the road to take the pic.

It's been a while since I posted some pictures. Here are a few steam specials followed by some DMU pictures taken on the Carmarten to Swansea line, all of these are in an area from just south of Kidwelly to just north of Ferryside.

46201 Princess Elizabeth north of Abergavenny. I was a bit disappoined with this shot as I think there should be more sky.
Image

Lancashire Fusilier 45407 north of Lydney, I was lucky enough to have this engine a few weeks later on the Jacobite from Fort William to Mallaig.
Image

The next two pics are related, 9681 pulls the coaches from the above picture to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway. Whilst a Class27 assists at the rear. The beauty of single tracks is that you can't tell the 27 is going backwards :-)

These three are all just south of Kidwelly

According to the map, this is still in use......but I have my doubts.

Just north of Ferryside. I'm trying to get more landscape in my railway pics, the last two pics are an example of this. The river in the background is the Towy, where it reaches the sea.

Just caught up with this thread - some excellent photos!
Are you going to enter anything into the May Photographic Challenge?

Not sure at the moment, hoping to get down to the Glos-Chepstow soon. Hopefully before the end of May and hopefully some freight trains will appear.

Great selection there Mr Wolf.
My only comment on the 'Lizzie' photo is that perhaps the loco could be a little more to the foreground - just my preference.

I thought I'd head down to the South Wales Mainline to try and get some freight pics for May's Competition. As you can see I failed miserably and only got these pics of Passenger trains. Perhaps it was practice for this months competition.

The first five pics were all taken from the bridge next to Severn Tunnel Junction Station

This weekend the Severn Tunnel was closed due to engineering works (thank you Network Rail). As a result First Great Western sent their Paddington - Swansea HST's via Gloucester. As a result here are my photo's taken on Saturday. At least this month I'll have something to enter in the photo competition :D

Click on thumbnails for larger pics

The first set of photographs are at Gatcombe, the third picture didn't go as well as I'd hoped. I thought the HST might be more visible. The first and last have been distorted by heat haze, I think they look quite atmospheric.

Image Image Image Image

These three pics were taken at Purton, a mile down the line. The last two are the same photo cropped differently. This used to be a better position but the oak tree is growing!!

Image Image Image

This shot is at Naas Crossing just north of Lydney

Image

These five photo's were taken from Snipehill Bridge, a mile or two north of Chepstow.

Image Image Image Image Image

These four photo's were taken from a crossing used for farm traffic near the Severn Bridge Industrial Estate. I'm not sure if the second would be allowed in the photo comp as it technically constitutes trespass.....though as it's a level crossing, I'm not sure? Especially as the first photo was of the same train and the second was only taken as I was going back over the crossing to the car.

Image Image Image Image

These three are at Chepstow Station.

Image Image Image

There seems to have been a trend recently for animal pics so here is mine of a Fox :D As you can see it's taking no notice whatsoever of the threat of a £1000 fine for trespass on the railway.
