Just back from a holiday visiting family in Guernsey so this update is quite late as Guernsey does not have many Wi-fi hotspots.

Here is 37610 and 37611 on 1Q18 (Derby-Ilford) at Cambridge on 20 July 2009. I then got on the next Stansted train and went off on my hols.

Great pic Thomas. I'd always make an effort to see these test trains - DRS 37s look good with the NR coaches.

Which loco is in the foreground? Looks a bit shinier than the ones I've seen, and particularly good with the compass livery! Is it a recent repaint? Are there others painted the same?

That is actually a "going away" shot so 37611 is in the foreground. I think that both are recently repainted into the compass livery.

One photo from yesterday, 67027 on the VSOE at Cambridge:

Still liking the Ely shots. What was 66014 on - it doesn't look like a La Farge?

I believe that it was on the Middleton Towers sand.

A trip to York yesterday to have a look at the university turned into a very busy trainspotting day too!

My train passed 60074 on the ECML (a blurry shot but recorded none the less) and then I was greeted by the Scarborough Spa Express at York.

Here are some of the best shots from a very busy day:

47828 and 47813 stabled at Doncaster

6229 at the NRM, I didn't like it in photos, but having seen her I am a convert!

91111 (finally :D )

45231 with the second Scarborough Spa Express, looks even better in b+w!

And in the middle of all that, the university looks very good too!

Nice shots - 45231 looks very clean.
6229 does look very streamlined in her Art Deco inspired casing!
Well done blagging 91111, that livery will probably change soon too!
All the best mate.

A final trip to Ely today to see Oliver Cromwell and two 47s. Apologies for the quality, both are cropped from photos at full zoom:

I saw the return tour at Cambridge:

I then walked home, a drunk was boxing a bus shelter by the station  . Then I watched the Ashes highlights. :D

Really? I don't think it worked that well as there is poor contrast between the loco and the trees. I was happier with the return at Cambridge.

Subjective, but the background plays a big part in both pictures - I prefer to have the cathedral in the background than a concrete car park. Although the Cambridge shot has more of the loco and at close quarters, the Ely shot has more going for it in terms of interest and colour. I would have centralised the cathedral and got closer to the subject, but that is always easier said than done.
