Re: A few pictures from the South
70013 Oliver Cromwell on a Cathedrals Express tour to Yeovil.
In conjunction with the tour, there were various events celebrating 150 years of the Portsmouth-London direct line, and the advertising for this combined with the bank holiday seemed to result in a huge number of people out and about to see it. I was lucky to get a decent angle for my pic, as the bridge was crowded in the extreme. On an overcast day I know of some alternatives that would have been quieter, but in bright sun this angle is still the ideal place to be IMO.

Nice one Dave! you got the sunny side, looks terrific! ...that was the only problem with being on the main road bridge furthe down, because of the height and the curve, i could only really get the shaded side, but am glad to see your pic there mate.
..She was going some eh?!

A good shot, the location works well. I am hoping to see Oliver Cromwell next month, but I haven't been able to choose a good spot yet.

Thanks gents. Chris, having stopped at Havant, I assume she was still picking up speed, and would have been going quicker where you were. Certainly wasn't hanging around though!

Cracking shot Dave, yep sunny side is always the better option!

Re: A few pictures from the South
Thanks Dave. Much as I'd like to mix up the angles, the sun is always the first thing that I consider. In some ways I hope for an overcast day so as to open up the options!davek wrote:Cracking shot Dave, yep sunny side is always the better option!
Re: A few pictures from the South
The sun can be a pain, my part of the line is really limited in views and then the sun cuts that down too!

First one in a while...
It's almost a year since I first visited this spot, but this is the first time I've actually managed to capture the Holybourne tanks from this particular viewpoint - one of the best for eastbound trains. If the speed restriction sign wasn't there (just out of frame to the left) it would be perfect.

Thanks Thomas. It was a really pleasant morning, and it was nice to get out with the camera again. Amazing how much the trees/bushes/foliage have filled out and grown since I was last there!47806 wrote:It is a good location and the light is perfect!
Slightly more changeable weather today, but a break between showers was long enough to catch 59201 with its mismatched spectacles Another 59 for the album, and not counting 206 this was actually the first one I've seen in EWS/DBS livery.
Re: A few pictures from the South
I like how the colours on the loco have turned out. I got quite a shock when I went photting on the weekend just how much the brush has grown in the last few weeks!
Re: A few pictures from the South
A couple of nice pics there Dave - nicely done.

Thanks Tom. The lack of direct sun helps to cut down glare and show off the livery I think, although it does make for a duller scene overall.47806 wrote:I like how the colours on the loco have turned out. Cheers Dave. I made a better fist of the 'new' angle on the Chi stone I think (as compared to the pic from the Swanage tour).davek wrote:A couple of nice pics there Dave - nicely done.

Re: A few pictures from the South
Took a gamble on the weather and the timings and made the journey down to Eastleigh to see a loco convoy arriving for the open weekend.
55022 arriving from Swanage
Running around the convoy...
Before heading back to the works - some better shots of the whole train this time. Locos in tow are 33103, 31108 and 45060
45060 on the rear
And some nice clag!
On the wrong platform to get a decent shot of this MOD working, but quite liked this one of its cargo
And finally a glimpse of 09019 departing on a lowloader

Dave, these images are fantastic mate! you humbly announce that you were on the wrong platform to catch the mod working, but i liked it alot, unusual (to me anyway) and the 08 on the bridge, great capture. As for the rest, also very good indeed. thank you for sharing and keep that camera working.
