It may have been the Fastline 56's, I think they do Freightliner's, well I have seen them on container flats.

I don't have a timetable or anything but recently I have noticed on tuesday and wednesday nights I have seen intermodal trains with 86's in pairs and 56's in pairs. but it;s totally luck of the draw.

Dont think its a pair of 86's more like a pair of class 90's or a class 90 and 92 pairing. The two class 56's in pairs you would have seen are the fastline frieght workings with 56311 and either 56301-303 on containers. Im sure Sir Davek will know more about the working than me

The only 56's in action on the network at the moment are 56301 - 303 all with Jarvis Fastline.
They all work on the freightliner services that Fastline operate, mainly Doncaster/Birch Coppice/Trafford Park to Thamesport.

Fastline are to start a new coal operation but with the first three 56's not operating at 100% (302 is sick), and the five class 66's they have on order are some way off before delivery, Hanson Traction owned 56311 (56057) is being prepped to step in an help out. Hanson is also rumoured to also provide 56128 and 003 when they are ready to be realeased to traffic.

A double-headed 56 working is rare (but not impossible) indeed, normally only happens if one has failed or one extra is provided as insurance against failure - so keep your cameras at the ready!

look guys I'm not gonna argue I know what I have seen, I'm not new to railways either, I can recognise a pair of class 86's and a pair of class 56's. ok, no more debates thats what i saw, and yes class 90's are common and class 92's but they tend to run alone because they can manage alone.

Can i ask if you know the date of the working regarding the 86's?
im sure we can find out more info on what was working that day if we know the date, however class 86's have gone out of service for a while, some of the returnee locos have been on passenger duties

Ah, my fault! totally forgot about freightliner! thats what happens when the area you work is dominated by EWS although have been seing Frieghliner workings on the Neath stone workings as they use the run around loop at Swansea Burrows.

I'll go out on Monday (not tomorrow as Sunday s dead boring) and see what I can find (I'll mainly concentrate on freight though).

I can't recall seeing anything apart from 66's and 90's and 92's really. 67's I haven't seen on freight yet (only on the Royal train thursday night and once on the Caledonian Sleeper). Saw a 47 and 66 on heading to Euston Light engine (Directrail livery).

I made a particular effort with that shot. I tried to get the whole gantry in (which I did), I think that if the 390 was just a few feet furthur forward then it would of been a perfect photo.
