I cant really compare it to another model at the moment (I was given a Heljan FGW 57 for my birthday but have not had chance to run it yet).

I have had the bachmann 57 (as reviewed) since my birthday last year and I believe it is a good model. It runs very smoothly even at slow speeds both under DC and DCC control. I would recommend it and am trying to save enough money to get the later model (Lady Penelope with the Dellner Coupling)
