Building a modelling "strip & profile" storage/assorter box

either that or you've "finished!" I wonder if there's a record for the number of models built, or for example any one person has built the entire airfix or revell range...

Initial stages of building my new strip assorter;

What you see is the base with the light showing through showing the infill braceings.

The rear-most sections, to store tallest of strip & profiles done, lower tiers will follow in line.
As previously explained, lower 3rd numbers (0,1,2,3,4 & slim rodding will be stacked from the far-most righthand side section.

Continuation of my new strip box, now half built..,

I decided to try a method of making the dividing sections. Thickness of divider sections are 0.30" thou (0.75mm) , so I cut out 0.75mm half way each side so one half will slot over the other half. I still needed to use 'L' profiles to secure the alignment for right-angles.


Heights of tiered sections were decided & cut to width & height. I'm using 0.40" thou (1.0mm) for those.
Getting the width correct/same is essential, the decision of height can be altered at a later stage.

Tip ; - One aspect of modelling I recently learnt was to cut styrene sheet with the reverse side of the blade, 'dragging' the blade (reverse side) lightly to start ., The sheet thickness was 0.30 thou" (0.75mm) so I needed to make 4 or 5 drag/passes using the reverse side of blade.
This has the effect of routing out the styrene at cut line , the resulting cut having a good right-angle with virtually no bevelling, just a small amount of 'flash' to be removed using a large flat file or fingernail, steel ruler edge or similar.


Using Evergreen 'L' profiles #294, 295, & 296, I cut into several pieces of them to about 1cm long , welding them onto styrene sheet.
I had to be accurate with my markings for their placement for obvious reasons.


Testing the fit & alignment for dividing sections, those divider strips will need cutting to height at a later stage.

Building of the lower tiered sections;


All sections completed; I tidied area's of uneven joins and re-enforced some vulnerable area's where thinner styrene sheet was used for the sides, now ready for spray painting;


Spray painted; I used Halfords plastic primer , then Halfords 'Signal green' (Ford)


And loaded up in such a way as described in a previous post I made to this thread.
