Wellfracombe

Postby piemanlarger » Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:15 pm

I Started a new Layout last tuesday, Wellfracombe.

Its being built to see if I still enjoy silent steam! Saying that it is liley that one or two locos will be sound chipped?

5 ft fiddle +18 ft scenic, singlish line into a small seaside end of line station, max = loco + 3or 4 coaches. The main feature of the layout is the steep incline that runs back out from the station to fiddle yard, it climbs 8 inches in about 11 foot, so its steepish. The idea is you have loco plus 3 coaches being banked out of the station, based loosley on Illfracombe.
There is also a brewery next to the station for a bit of goods (mostly vans) work.

Have to get on as its on display July 27+28 at local church!

6 Days in and things are starting to take shape with the busiest board, (the station and brewery) track plan now finalised, for now!

Middle board (church board) is done, this and the entry board are simple affairs.

The entry board from the fiddle yard will be a double track tunnel that goes into single track approach to the station or brewery. The idea is that a train will be held awaiting a clear road. Further interest here comes from the fact that hopefully it will have sound, so it can hiss and blow off while waiting so adding some extra interest to watching punters.

Passenger trains, usually 3 coach will enter the station on platform 1 (nearest brewery), perform a run round, the station/brewery pilot will shunt the stock into platform 2 and then the train will depart up the incline with the pilot as banker (see photo of spamcan + 3 coaches being banked by 45xx).

Passenger trains can also go out on the "low level" track back through the tunnel (14xx pic)

Brewery trains (see std 4 pic + 6 wagons) have enough points and sidings to hopefully make it interesting shunting for train spotters.

Hopefully the Tunnel board and fiddle yard will be done by Friday so by this time next week it should be working, if so I shall u tube it!

Thats an interesting looking layout. I quite like the church - especially the way that you have a realistic size churchyard with it.....what make is the church - its a really nice model :)

Nice busy (and convincing looking) layout - and nice too to see some decent steam. Far too much diesel on this forum.

Nice layout with loads of operational interest.
I look forward to your video!
Have you actually sound chipped a steamer yet?
Will you allow your sound fitted diesels a run on it? You could still time it as a preserved railway?
2 trains, 2 railroad tracks, one going the other one coming back. Click Clack, Click Clack.

Thanks for the kind words.

I guess I could operate it under diesel power, 153 + 158 for passenger with perhaps 37 on 3 x mk 2 coaches, class 08 as banker!

Just a couple of 66 hauled vans needed for the brewery!

The idea is to see if silent steam can still be fun to operate, otherwise there will be a layout for sale in August!

I like your point work it looks very interesting. It looks a huge task to line the points up.

From what I've seen so far it looks rather good.

Spent last night doing some scenic work and starting the modrock on the "Tunnel" board. Just got to add the plaster rockface to it later today. More trees and another look at the scenery later, then it may be a running session on Friday, with sound!
