I must admit I was tempted by some in the model shop. They are Ideal for learning to spray and weather.

Bored, so took a video of me "weathering" one of my new tankers (yup they have now been promoted from hiding in the car to the layout)

Its sleeper Grime, it was in fact Mr Levin (god of lights) who pointed me in its direction. (bowes at his greatness ;) )

I think for the cost of the tankers and new wheel sets for them I think they are great value for money.

Plus in my opinion the black shell tankers look fairly lifelike, unlike the bright red ones.

Point Location Plan

Postby B@rney » Sat Nov 10, 2007 9:59 pm

In the process of making myself a point notification layout plan to go on the wall.

Put in the first LED's tonight as a test.

Work so far.

Image

Look carefully you can see 2 green and 2 red lights bottom right. showing that the points are set to change from one track to the other.

Hey Barney, I was reading this thread earlier today actually....

I've finally gotten round to ordering a can of that sleeper grime paint to do some weathering on those tankers, and was wondering if you've had a go of spraying any loco's with it ?

I take it I'd have to remove all the innards from any loco before spraying it.... Just wondering if you've done any ? :D

arfe the 2 colour leds?

Yep, they will be wired to a either (i think you call them SDTP) switches which control my vire in tube points and those little black things that fit under peco point motors.

As i change the point they swap from red to green and visa versa.

Not yet.. not sure i have the guts, will probably have a practice on an old HST or something first. As for removing the innerds.. not sure, your only doing a very fine coat so might not need to, as long as you run it quickly after.

How many points do you have on your layout?

Not sure not counted.. ang on..25 (so far)

Thanks for all your comments guys, much appreciated, lots more soldering to do, then i have to work out how to attatch LED's to the back surface of hardboard?
