Nothing like Ian Drury to get one's yah-yah's out. A brilliant artist, may he rest in peace. Salt mines, in Numidia, Northern Africa, were
a place where Romans sent convicts to hard labor. A little pun on work.

It was a lot of fun to do this vid. Great to revisit Ian Drury, as well. The sack car is an Electrotren piece, advertised as fertilizer sacks. To myself, they look more like onion sacks, so take your pick. North Americans tend to see Europe through a small lens, so running Spanish equipment in the British Range does not confuse them. One has to be careful with Electrotren as it appears some of the rolling stock have metal axles that short DC, unless someone fiddled it before it got to me.

Everything getting in the groove! At around 1.03min even the fence rails in the foreground are vibrating like the strings of a solid bass riff!

Just knocking about today, my day off. This Bachmann Class 3200, Duke Dog, is proving to be a superlative gem. Many revenue miles on her today. The Oxford Rails Dean Goods is also a beautifully made piece with exquisite running characteristics. The Hornby Rocket is delicate as a butterfly wing, but runs beyond comparison, achieving the much desired low speed control, and navigates points and diamonds without a breath of hesitation. The Hornby Dapol Terrier is also a joy to run- a beautifully crafted piece that also is geared properly so as to provide much enjoyment.

More of the same rubbish, but from a different angle. The performer, Richard Dyer-Bennet is a favorite, so here's a bump to his brilliant music:

The latest in mind numbing model train videos: "Electrifying Developments in Olive Oil Distribution." Fired up
brand spanking new Lima electric, and she performed perfectly. I had a weird issue with the Electrotren
flat, with the blue and white jugs on it just behind the locomotive. Seems that Electrotren had made the
wheels metal with a metal uninsulated axle, which caused shorting. Not a good short, either, as it would
only cause the overload to flicker as it rolled along, but annoying enough and not wanting to damage the
transformer. Seems that this would be correct for an AC 3 rail set up, but definitely not compatible with
DC 2 rail. Found a quick and easy solution by putting a drop of Super Glue on each wheel tread, and that
created a thin layer of insulation that allows it to roll perfectly. Finding replacement Electrotren wheel sets
pretty dang hard, and that piece cost better part of $30 with international shipping. A bit more than the Tyco
I usually have picked up for two-fer-a-dollar.

Worth trying with the super glue spread around the axle covering the whole area the wheel seat occupies, then press the wheel on. That way the insulation won't wear off.Chops wrote:... This needs a little organisation to work well, ideally a wheel press arrangement with a gauge piece between the wheelbacks so the wheelset is assembled true and in gauge. Of course you only need one wheel fully insulated to get a 'result' on a wheelset, so there's two attempts available on each wheelset. (Long time since I last did this, used my pillar drill with a piece of tube in the chuck as the basis of the press.)
