This is going to be a bit of a small very old village for mainly hidding a bit the right corner. It's name seems is going to be "Thermostat-Sur-Mer" and the reasons are obvious...

(The many holes in the 50mm foam are traces of it's long story...)

ImageIMG_0027 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

WARNING: there is, again, not such a thing as a 'plan'.
The footprint of the terrain was drawn long ago with I can't recall what idea but when I saw it again it was new to my lobe brain cell's poor elastic memory and I like it 'again'.
The idea it contains is to suggest a street behind the buildings at the front but that would be just suggested speculating with the fact that the place, position and distance from the front of the layout won't permit that the viewer's eye noitice the stree is just a couple of centimeters 'long' in both directions. Once I get there with the building, a couple of tricks will help to accentuate that effect...

The colors are coming up o.k. but the whole still will get a serious blending session once the building process is done and also a whitening veil (toguether with the surrounding landscape) so to help creating the effect of perspective...

but there is plenty to do before that!

That thermostat needs replacing with a nice new wireless one, that you can reposition. I once worked with a guy who's decision to buy his housing association home was driven by their refusal to allow him to move a thermostat which got a blast of cold air every time someone went in or out of the rear door!

Well, thank you for the warning and the well-intentioned tip but, for this time, I won't tell the folks at Thermostat-Sur-Mer that you propose depriving them of their collective identity. And you should be very thankful for that because -I asume you didn't know- one of their attachments to tradition is the use of the guillotine (temporarilly hidden in the cellar of the second building from right.)

Next image show I miscalculated something so now the left end of the small street is visible if one stretch the neck from the front... (Is the white wall at the left end.)

I ImageIMG_0102 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I was almost ready to start thinking (not really) when one of the Muses said:

"_No , no, no! Do need to think or sauch things: go find the rests of plastic mirror you have in some of the drawers and enjoy._"

I wanted the effect in next image so a couple of details (to come) would show the rear half of a small cart and some other thing as a dog walking under it so to suggest a kind of corridor but now I am going to see what the mirror suggest this time. (I have used such mirrors a couple of times in a diorama and are a nice trick to fool the eye.)

Thank you.
Good to know you like it.
Actually I am still enjoying a lot seeing how the village develops itself.
That's one of the beautiful things of doing not knowing what until it's done. :)

Of course, those building need roofs...

ImageIMG_0001 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

...and, once more, I made a casting in common plaster and this morning was ready to me cut to shape and all the rest...

ImageIMG_0003 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0006 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

The silicone rubber mold was made using a commercial resin casting from MK-35 that is since already many years no more in production.

You probably have seen many roofs in my buildings with such a roof. (Not the one in the Valkenburg Diorama which was built with hand made tiles.)

I was ready to start cutting the new casting when something so0mewhere in what seems to be the big space in my empty head said:

"_Ting!_"

I saw only a plastic bag from the supermarket...

I asked: _What do you mean?_

But the only thing left was curiosity so I wanted to take a look and see...
Well, this is what I saw:

ImageIMG_0008 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

OF COURSE...!!!

That is a bag full of the old wallpaper of probably a room or home being redecorated which I found in the trash a dozen years ago or so...

By then I had found this images

ImageP2210975 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

... and thought it was rough slate or so... but it wasn't:

ImageP2150484 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I love those stone roofs and tried to model some with materials from MNHS (Mother Nature Hobby Shop, a place where I get the best materials even when I have noi cents)...

ImageP2230238 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageP2230239 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

and this was what I've got...

ImageP2230240 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageP2230242 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I liked it and used for a couple os small roofs in "Pondézar" and other build but such kind of bark is easy to find. Most have much thicker 'layers' or are too small... I will get back to that one day, as I find another conbvenient bark. The one above I brought from Nauders (Austria) twenty years ago.

But the old wallpaper wanted to tell me something so I listened...

It said:

ImageP2100846 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Recently, no idea how many years later, when I was working on my ungoing diorama (not the layout) I considered recycling two pieces of that old try and may be you remember...

ImageIMG_0013 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

... but for adapting it I was forced to create a seam...

ImageIMG_0018 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0012 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

and that didn't conviced me so I thought I will get back to it later and now here I am, ready for playing with the old wallpaper...

ImageIMG_0021 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I know, the real stones look twice as thick and for slate these are too rough...

So I tried this today...

ImageIMG_0024 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

ImageIMG_0025 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Here you see a piece of the original and the sanded one:

ImageIMG_0026 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

No. It doesn't convince me for slate. But I want it as stone.

An unavoidable experiment will be, soon: two or may be even three layers of wall paper glued on each other with wallpaper glue and see if it works.
Actually there must be two experiments: one with plain wallpaper and one with latex painted one...

Well, for the time being I will go ahead whith what I already have but those experiment will BE and SOON.
