Always so much going on !!
Not like here in sleepy Dorset.
I wouldn't normally say .... But I do agree with Daniel, each to their own though !

It's just my opinion but the bright metal disrupts the amazing, beautiful harmony of all the rest but in the places where it is painted the atmosphere gets really impressive.

An interesting idea, Daniel and it has crossed my mind.
The thing is I have several personal and family challenges that must come first.
I have a number of other interests (some I am taking a back seat, but still involved).
I have people asking for assistance here in the UK and USA on various things.

As for the model railway; my main priority with it is the trains run without problems. The little time I have (beyond running trains) I add (or take away) bits of scenery I feel needs doing. Taking time to paint the rail sides is low on the list. I am not saying I will not do it, but not yet.

I thank you for your comment, Daniel.

Just taken me eight years to be where we are now. What with suggestions to paint the rails  there is still plenty to do.

For when I run diesels on the layout; my local model shop owner knew I was after some military tanks and told me he had a couple on lomacs at a reasonable price.
A purchase was made.

As bought --

A little bit of 'doing up' and a first coat of paint.

Still more to do, but other pressing matters first.

A family member is having a 'clear out' and came across his old model railway packed in a large box. He is no longer interested in Model Railways so asked me if I wanted the items.

The box duly arrived and I have been looking through what there is. A lot is not worth saving - old rusty track and the like. In fact most of the carriages and trucks were pretty 'beat up'; candidates for the scrap yard.

A small number of incidental items I know I can 'do up' and put on the layout.

Then at the bottom, like finding needles in a haystack, wrapped in paper, three beautiful carriages in 'blood and custard' colour. They were not in boxes, but they look brand new.

Yes, most of the items went in the trash, but well worth the search thru.

The coaches - straight from the box to layout.

I asked the family member about them. He said they belonged to his brother; who took a model of 'Flying Scotsman' in exchange. I prefer the coaches. :D

:o ...

Lucky you!

But... you throw away old rails ?

I keep old Lima rails in the balcony a couple of years and don't forget to spread on the some salt every now and then just to get them rusty enough for my dioramas!!!

The coaches look really great.

I use old rails and old rail offcuts for various things. If nickel silver, I use the offcuts to make points and things. If steel, they can be used in making waggons or put to scenic effect. (I have also used nickel silver on waggon making).

I have kept a good selection of 'modern track'. The Triang/Hornby Series 3 System 4 were well past bad, never mind useable.

There was a 'Searchlight Wagon' in good condition. It goes with the other Battle Space items I have. My eldest grandson loves them. He puts his Marvel Adventure figures on them.

Daniel and Mountain. If I thought I could have used the track again, or given it away I would. I do try and recycle what I can. :)

Oh I know and thank you. I had hoped to give the stuff away, but just couldn't. That is annoying (to me).

In the box was a 125 power car in good condition. It runs, but in a dire need of a service. I shall be putting that on the Sales thread.
