Can't help wondering if the 25's driver has stopped to buy an ice-cream?

This reminds me of a railtour I went on in JUNE 1992 called the Worksop Whistler that had been organised to coincide with an Open Weekend at Worksop Depot.
We visited local Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire collieries which are now long gone. The train was topped and tailed by double headed English Electric Type 1s (Class 20). We made an unscheduled stop at Edwinstowe (Notts) station for some reason. The station was on the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast line to Lincoln. It was closed years before but the station building and platform were still there. Loads of passengers got out of the train and were meandering round the station when all of a sudden the chimes of an ice cream van were heard. Up the station drive comes this ice cream van and parks up. It was a really hot sunny day and I think the guy sold out before we left.

A few years ago through a Derbyshire Railways group on Facebook I actually got in touch with one of the drivers on that railtour. He also remembered the ice cream van appearing out of nowhere and indeed the driver did have an ice cream that day.

Is a model railway ever completed? No more 'major' work is being done on the layout (for now). I am just enjoying running trains.

Class 47 47402 Gateshead on a Castleford to Leeds Central local.

Class 27 27037 on the morning 'Cattle Train'. The S R wagon is a new acquisition (thanks Geoff) on its maiden run prior to a repaint etc. (when I get round to it).

In a job lot I purchased were these two, in need of repair. The rockets do not fire (and we do not want them to.) New wheels and a couple of minor repairs; the grandchildren like them. They haven't been able to run trains due to Covid, so I give these military items a trip round now and again.

I am not one to do weathering normally, but I thought I would have a go with some parcel vans. I 'purloined' some old make-up of Lady Glencairn (not that she needs it you understand) and began to experiment on the vans.

Nothing complicated. Just dabbed different shades of brown in the corners, windows, edges etc. etc. Anywhere I thought dust and grime would congregate. I did them just before Christmas and surprisingly the powders are still staying put, even though they are not 'stuck down'.

Dunno, Geoff. I lost my sense of smell a few years back. The powders are still there though.
