Planning just as it should be done, back of an envelope to start, and if there's any uncertainty left find an old roll of wallpaper and do it full size on the back.

My layout is being built in a an L-shaped box room. It is very restricting space wise but I do like the fact that I can wander in their any time I like, it's warm and there are no ladders involved! I tend to get a lot done in there as I can just pop in for the odd half-hour (while waiting for the dinner to cook for example) and do a bit. Also, everything I need is readily to hand.

Yep, a tiny space really compared to some, but it's all I'm going to have for the foreseeable future so I'm making the best of it. The layout is along three walls - 8 ft, 7ft & 3ft approx and is only 1ft wide.

This is my railway 'room'. It's impossible to get a photo of the whole layout because of the L shape.

Wonderful layout in sight. I'll follow you thread with a great interest.
Is there a thread about this micro layout somewhere ? Thanks.

There is no doubt that modelling in an actual room with normal access is so much more convenient than lofts, cellars or other less accessible places :D. As long as the railway can survive any other activities that must occur in the 'railway room' (its no longer a 'box room' is it?).

Our 'family room' will hopefully morph into a 'railway room' once the kids have fully left home - Mrs. Penguin seems amenable to the idea (though may not fully appreciate the extent to which I would like to take over the room )

You look to have made a great start with your layout - I will be interested to see how you get on with the removable section across the doorway . . .

That's coming on really nicely, it's amazing what you can do with a small room!

I like the graffiti - not from the experience of a mis-spent youth I hope
