Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme
Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme
I did a locomotive exchange with Mountain. He sent me some clockwork locomotives. My intention is to have a small garden layout.
It is raining. I ran the locomotive on my layout in the train room. A daft half hour of nonsense and having fun.
Here are a couple of pictures.
Waiting at the signal with a train bound for Barnbow.
On a passenger service.

What is fun about them is when they really start to free themselves up, is winding them just far enough to get them to glide in and stop at a station. Many years ago they used to get them to run in such a way that they would stop just where they needed to. It was meant to be a fine art, as each loco behaved differently.

Yes I agree. By giving them loaded trucks to pull adds to the fun.

When my brother was young and he had a clockwork set, with its circle of 1st radius track, we used to get around 15 laps per wind which wasn't bad considering it was pulling its three wagons. My nieces and nephews ended up with that on a board I made for them and they never used it, and it then dissapeared in a house move which I was not too thrilled about.
The ability to run trains regardless of an electricity supply is ideal for testing ones track before one does the wiring.

The puddles at Clarence Dock are still there. A thick layer of varnish with a thin piece of plastic over the top. if and when it gets dusty, a wipe with the corner of a damp cloth. The 'damp' patches on the floor is simply a coating of varnish with more 'coats' in places giving the impression of areas drying out and other areas not.
A simple self explanatory scene at Clarence Dock.
A Prince of Wales Collieries wagon. A must have wagon bringing personal memories to our family of a story 'handed down' since the 1930s.

When the grandchildren visit clockwork locomotives are a thing of the past.
The goods train at Roseville Crossing.
The Kirkstall & East Seacroft goods train waits patiently at the signal. It is a long wait as the grandchildren run diesels on the other circuit.

A unique layout I enjoy looking in on it and finding all the small details, what business is going on in those sheds.

Thank you captrees & Journeyman for your kind words. They are much appreciated.
When I was a lad living in Leeds I was told many a story of life in Pontefract in the 1920s/30s; especially around the collieries.

Last day with the grandchildren, so I was left to take a few pictures of Clarence Dock.
