Those Oil Soaked tracks do look very nice. How did you achieve the effect?

I must have got behind the times somewhat though, last time I checked diesels were single moulded bodies, with slab sides. Your Freightliner 66 looks like a Model, not a toy. The detail is brilliant. It's almost enough to get me interested in weasels!

Thanks everyone, didn't notice my 1000th post though

PT- the main area (that is the main baord and part of the left hand board) is about 10ft by 1ft 6 inches. The main board by itslef is less than that but the TMD is on both boards.

Owen- That's the spirit! Almost Everyone loves Weasels!

As for the oil stains...

It was filler rubbed into the ballast to make it look soaked with oil (looked like snow when it wan't painted lol).
Then painted black and PVA over it for a shine.

Hi all, finally got around to getting s'more of the layout done. Went to Model Active in Chestermoor near Chester Le Street today and picked up some woodland scenics foliage, paints, a point for the scrapyard and a Dapol dockside crane. Just couldn't resist the last one

So here's a few pics of the foliage as it is and the progess on the crane, enjoy!







Hopefully I didn't overdo this bit

The crane got as far as the base being glued, might try adding some wire and cotton thread for rigging to make it more realistic.

Thanks all, the woodland scenics stuff has plenty of variety to it too, lots of colours then lots of different textures. Think mine's clump foliage and foliage clusters.

Been workin' on the crane the past two days and got it painted a bit. Havent got to doing the wheels yet as the plastic ones are really bad runners and the crane has to run on rails.
Does anyone know big exactly are N guage metal wheels? The ones for the crane are about 5 or 6 mm across.


The cab where the winches will be. The kit has instructions for how to make a working crane with rigging.

I've just caught up with this thread after not looking for a while and I have to say the layout is looking great . The track weathering and the folliage really do add to the realism.

The crane looks great too. Is it me or does the top look like the hornby point motor housing?
