Hi all I have a design plan of the Layout which shows roughly it's design. It will be DCC but I will test it with my normal controllers whicle building. It should be alot bigger and smoother with Peco flexible track and long points. It will also take up less space as the near board is a removable bridge. The sidings are also nice and long in both areas!!!!



The greay building is the shed, the blue building the fuel point, brown buildings are railway buildings and stabling points, dark green are small foot or road bridges, the yellow green area is a tunnel.
I'll update soon but the Layout is still being planned out.

What DCC were you going to use?

If there is more space, add as many more sidings as:

1) You are comfortable with
2) You can afford

A few more on the left and at the shed will pay dividends later on when the layout is finished and you are running trains.

I'm not sure of the exact length of the baseboards but the top section is the entire width of the wall. I'll measure the dimensions soon.
I was thinking of using either Digitrax or Gaugemaster DCC but I'm still not too sure .
If I can add more sidings I will. Always good to have them.

Looks good to me, you will have some nice long platforms for your trains with that plan. Also I think having an operation well makes it look allot better when operating as not all of the layout can be seen at once.

I know you are looking for a DCC system, have you considered the DYNAMIS? 9,999 adresses, full CV functioning and all for just £90!

Just to keep things updated I have decided on a location for the new Layout. That location will be nowhere in particular! As I like Locos from all over this country I decided to make my Layout represent a hub where many different trains run. There will be freight from EWS and Freightliner, hopefully an RMC quarry, passengers on Northern and GNER services, passengers on Southern services, passengers on CT and maybe even the Tyne and Wear Metro if that isnt too far out lol.

To achieve this and the running of electric lcos I would like to fit an overhead power line on at least one loop and siding for passenger stock. Otehr elctrification methods may also feature. More updates soon and pics to give you the scale of things!

The track arrived yesterday!!!! Eight peco electrofrog long points, ten concrete flexible track sections and enough second and third radius curves to make two loops!!!! Track laying should start soon as soon as the boards are screwed firmly into place. I ordered enough track to just about complete the first two boards as the otehr two will be later add ons to make a loop. For track underlay I will experiment with thin polystyrene which I think is sold as rolls from wallpaper and DIY stores. If the watered down ballasting glue mix doesn't stick this I will try adding cardboard ontop of the polystyrene.

This layout looks alot more simple than the first even though it is alot bigger. It will not be so far back that it cannot be reached always. I'll post pics when I have the camera and hopefully will follow the plan of track laying followed by the fitting of DCC to the layout (Bachmann 66 Forth Raider being the first to be chipped later) after a test run weatehring and ballasting should be soon started.

In theory all should be well. Then again in theory it should have doen last time lol!

Good to hear that your new layout is going underway. I'd just like to second what Lofty said as I have made a wind up plane out of polystyreen and PVA glue and it sticks well. A word of advice (you probably already know but) don't use superglue on the polystyreen .

An update.

I bought a Bachmann Seacow wagon in EWS today and it runs well but on closer inspection has one of teh six large hand wheels missing .
I ain't going all the way back to York to get a refund so hopefully Bachmann will have a spare hand wheel otherwise it'll have to do as it is.

I've also bought some Peco fishplates from my track which unusually to me anyway had no fishplates on the points and on one of the curves I think there was only one of em there.
Experimenting with running over short sections of track showed up some strange Electrofrog point problems as in the thread I started in the Hornby section.
The Hornby Class 60 still has coupling trouble but then it's using a Bachmann coupling NEM now.

Overall not too good on the Layout but hopefully It'll work soon.
The Bachmann Seacow is well worth buying!
