Just been through to Durham Trains of Stanley today (very good model shop well reccommended) and have bought the last bits of track for the layout and more ballast to keep me going with the scenery.

I also bought a Heljian "58" (which I've reviewed in the website articles forum) and decoder.

Just to keep you up to date on the grand plan now that all the track is accounted for and my mind (for now  ) is made up here's a plan of what will be in store for the removable board section.

Image

The main lines here will be very close together and a crossover will be provided to access the inner loop. A siding branching from the inner loop will be for fuel discharge, in keeping with the fuel depot theme. Some sort of dicharge equipment, possibly from the Knightwing kit will sit here as well as other appropriate buildings.

At the back a backscene will be fitted using locater pins, also serving to stop locos becoming aquainted with the floor at high speed :?

For now this board is way behind the others, having not yet been coated in polystyrene. The major headache however will be the electrical continuity and being able to replace the board accurately so as to keep the tracks linear.

All well and good at the tunnel side, where the join is on a straight and there's a hefty wooden block to keep things straight, but at the other side the join is on a curve and so far there's no solid fix other than screws into the wood.

Hopefully I can be on with this soon.

Also, here's a pic that didn't make it withe the first lot.

It does a bit lol. It's actually brown but the light is a bit dodgy. It is balalsted but the brown scatter used next to the track has mixed with the ballast a bit.

The past few days there's been precious little to photograph on the layout as all that's being done is cutting the track and testing on the removable board which will hopefully be under way for permanent laying soon.

Today however I thought I'd have a crack at the shed interior.

Image

The flooring has been made from plasticard and the hose runs from a spare mounting for the Knightwing fuelling point. Uisng solder or wire instead of the rubber supplied is much better in my opinion.

I'll be adding more clutter, possibly toolboxes and maintenance gear in the future. Also in store for the shed could be a lattice of roof supporting struts with hanging lamps. I've seen similar setups on other layouts and the effect is great.

More updates soon.

Liam.

The shed looks great Liam - as does the ballasting/weathering of the track.

Couple of questions:

Did you paint the track after you had ballasted it?
What did you use underneath the plasticard to bring it up to sleeper/rail height in the depot?

Thanks

Very good photo angle, that is a view that one doesn't often see. It is good that you decided to detail the interior, it looks good!

Yes, it was painted using acrylics. It takes alot of time (especially on points) but is a nice effect in the end. I just have to try and put out of my mind that there's still an entire board of track to do...

Nothing actually :) The plasticard was cut to fit between the rails tightly, meaning that it rests on the chairs. The card is also quite thick and it's pure coincidence that it was about right.

Thanks. Here's a couple more but the inside still needs lighting to brighten it up a bit.

Also a pic of the depot sign added to the shed. Since I've decided to operate the layout in more than one time period (late 80's-90's sectorization and EWS era) the signs will be removable for EWS counterparts to be fitted using high tech blutac technology 8)
