I think Flock has been around since day dot!
Certainly from Javis and Hornby in the 70's and maybe earlier for less well known makes.
Before that, the earliest boards were probably just painted, but at some point later, someone must have twigged that if you mix sawdust into paint and brush it on, you get a coarse finish. Later as done by myself, emulsion paint dye can be used to colour sawdust to many shades, which once dry could be glued down to a pre painted board. I know my mate had his Dublo laid on a board covered in green felt and make roads out of grey card stuck over that!

Hello all
I have gone down the dying sawdust myself route on Little Weldon. I have made several different coloured batches using cheap Acrylic paints from The Works. I have also used ground up foam, natural works better than synthetic.

Well Dublo, I sure didn't mean to send you on a research project! But immensely interesting in any case, thank you!

Those last photos of the castle extension, my has that grown. Will we see some re-enactments on the grounds by any chance?
Cheers,
Josh

I seem to recall that my first encounter with it was around 1965.

Am excellent scenic extension there - I will check back to see how the painting of the structures dramatically improves the scene :D

The randomness of colours really make it stand out. Great work Dublo. :)
Thanks

It may take time but the effort is worth it!
I find it difficult picking out so many bricks and get lost personally. Very talented Dublo!

Hello all
Many thanks for your kind words Gentlemen. Things are starting to move along quite nicely on Weldon Castle, all of the Linka is now painted. The painting of the River Wel is also underway.

I used to have a Linka kit and enjoyed making structures, although I never seemed to make anything but ruins! The archways and doors were pretty fragile and always broke as I took them out of the mold  - The castle scene brings a great focal point; however, the painting of the bricks must be pretty tedious, but it does look effective!
