CandO is Under Construction

Postby CandO » Fri Oct 27, 2017 3:48 pm

After a hiatus of nearly 11 months the developers have finally began moving in to restart the construction process of C and O! :D

On the Baseboard thread I ended with the following pic....

This was the only part of the elevation I had done as such and upon re-erecting the baseboards last week and re-siting the track I decided upon a slight change. I decided to bring the tracks forward approx 120mm which meant I needed new curves and so I set about redrawing the layout on paper and remeasuring all the dimensions for the yard. I did take some pictures of the process but like a numpty I deleted them from the camera (I thought I'd downloaded them to the laptop but hadn't  )
Anyway, the upshot is that I now have new fuller curves at each end with no joints....

The yard base was then re-drawn onto the board (green hatching was the part to be discarded and ignore the big blue line!!) and then it was (roughly) cut to shape and the curves trimmed to align up....

The next task is to temporarily attach the boards so I can lay track and then i know the position of all points and thus place the supports to avoid those areas. I'm also still undecided as yet as to whether or not to use cork under the tracks - thoughts?

But I think it's all looking good so far!! :D

Ouch! That's annoying, are there any smaller modelling things you can do that your back can tolerate? Must be frustrating to be hampered by that?

As it took four weeks before the back got anywhere near ok November turned into a non-month for the layout. December was always going to be a no-go too with birthdays and the first anniversary of my dads passing quickly followed by Christmas meaning it all got taken down and popped in the corner again, All this time though did give me a chance to rethink various aspects of the layout....

The boards did get set back up after Boxing Day and over the past 3 or 4 days I've been able to get some progress made :D

My first job was to strengthen the fiddle yard boards as I felt that more support was needed and also, by using dowels to align each half, I would guarantee that they would be level with other.

Fiddle yard after....

The next job was to add the cork to the fiddle yard area....I knew all those rail modelling magazines would come in handy!!

I've now got to the point where I'm going to start fixing the track down although atm I'm still undecided as to whether to use point motors in the fiddle yard or change them manually - thoughts please peeps...

Anyway - a few pics showing the fiddle yard layout roughly as it will be....
