The Harz In HOm

Postby Austinw » Wed Jan 11, 2017 5:02 pm

A few photos from my Harz based layout in HOm scale. I've partially completed the station platforms and the engine shed area. As there is no freight traffic now in the Harz, the Faller goods shed has had some heavy weathering, as will the track on which it stands as I want to represent a disused shed on an overgrown siding.

Very nice Austin... Are you going to exhibit it?

You may want to join NGRM Forum, there are several Harz modellers on there!

Hi Austinw,

Very nice layout - end to end is what most of us have to
be content with.
I have no knowledge of the stock/environment feel/operating
so would never think of doing something like this. What I do
appreciate is something away from the British Outline norm.
Visually so refreshing.

Absolutly charming. :) Nice to enjoy something other then British outline for a change and thanks for the video. Although a small layout you've really captured a sense of open space. That abandoned goods shed looks great!
Thanks

Thank you, I definitely don't think I'm up to exhibition standards so it will only be seen on video! Appreciate the advice re the NGRM forum, I'll take a look

Thanks for your kind comments, once I add the forest section it will be better as it will give a decent run.

Thanks very much, I've come to love the Harz after a couple of visits and with Tillig producing locos and rolling stock I just had to have a try.

Rather a long time since I last posted so I thought I'd do an update. Over the past year I've added little bits of scenery to the main board (6'x2') but the layout didn't have a permanent home until November last year when I was able to proceed with the next two baseboards. The first is 4'x1' and is a forest area which runs into a board 5'x1' containing a station and runround loop. The track is laid and ballasted on that board and electrics completed and amazingly it works once everything is connected. I've just completed the forest section so things hopefully look a little more 'Harz like'. Attached are several photos showing progress to date

What I love about your layout is that there is not too much track... It gives room for the scenic touch!

I have to say that the scenic side of model railways is what I enjoy most and with relatively little space there just wasn't enough room for more track in this scale
