Thank you both. The space aspects of N are indeed an enormous plus - even WITH the required "twice" the room I could not possibly have filled it in the same time. I get bored without seeing some quick results! Judging it by what I expected, it's pretty good. Against some of the top quality layouts on here, it certainly isn't. Given years to improve I could do a bit better but not significantly - and I don't have the years.
So.....it's helped fill the dismal first few months of the year, time for something new, probably. We shall see.
Onward.....maybe.

Agreed - a great little layout - good luck with your next venture

Re: Now N ....10 Weeks and DoNe P15......
Seconded!
I haven't been on here for a few weeks and the progress was a real eye-opener. Every layout/project is another step down the road towards better work - judging by this the next project can't come too soon!
All the best,
James

And now "under some minor REconstruction"! Having thought about ways to increase capacity that would have required add on boards, decided that that would negate the whole idea of small and simple. So it will be a few extra sidings....
Partly remove "hill/tunnel", use a rail served Metcalfe small factory (kit bought so I'll have to proceed!) as partial view blocker, free up an existing siding and add one by relocating loco shed and reducing to only one road (this may not fit!) will give me storage without - I hope - looking ridiculously crowded.
Minimal cost option - something to DO pre Xmas. It'll almost certainly be sold, whole or split, come January as I've also near enough decided on a "back to 00 or H0 plank" venture come the NY.
Thought if I commit to some action in public so to speak then I'll actually DO something!

Small factory built, new track mostly laid (altho' I couldn't actually fit what scarm implied I could - or not without rendering the points inoperative! so didn't gain as much extra inches of sidings as I'd hoped). Need to shorten the works siding to allow the overbridge and sloping road down into the "middle". But it's coming along...

Loco shed reduced to one track (perhaps built for expansion that never happened??) and two short sidings added.

As I feared, Ithink I've fallen into the overcrowding trap, but then it IS just a train set.

Looks alright to me
I've seen much more crowded plans, on the real thing
Out of interest what's the footprint of the Metcalfe shed?

"....the footprint of the Metcalfe shed...." is 7 1/4" by 3 1/4".

More sensible than my flights of fancy.
Coal and loco coal, the sidings?
Chris.
