Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout
That diagram may well be for a modern design of plate girder bridge but doubler plates have been applied to girders for as long as these bridges have been built, get yourself a copy of "Bridges for Modellers" by L.V. Wood, plenty of drawings in that book showing how doubler plates were applied

This Signature Left Intentionally Blank, but since I have written this and I intended to do it, this Signature is intentionally not blank. Paradox or What?

I don't doubt it, I was just making an observation on the bridge design. I've lots of books on structural design (some over 100 years old now), I studied it for three years

That bridge looks excellent
it looks very natural which is especially impressive as it looks to be on an angle. As usual, your painting/weathering makes it look so real; well done!

It's a shame no suppliers do a 20 thou by 2mm wide strip with rivets on, it would fly off the shelf!
Why don't you put the link to your video on here Paul?

Thanks all for the kind comments.
LMB, the included diagram is a useful one and I’ll log it for future builds.
PNP, the bridge is sitting parallel to the walls but the line runs on a slight curve which means, if looking from above, there is a gap between the girders and the baseboard that will need a strip of plasticard to plug it before ballasting.
Timbersurf, I have come across a company that provides them in sheets that remove, I think, like decals but at nearly £20 a sheet I baulked at the idea.
As Timbersurf has also highlighted and for anyone who may be interested, I posted a build process of the girder sections on my YouTube channel that can be found through the following link.

Another great looking bridge, you certainly have the knack of the weathered stone. I look forward to seeing it bedded in to the embankment with scenics.

Hi Jim, no, I’ve been a little quiet of late on here. Still dropping in but haven’t been commenting. Hope the biscuits went down well.
Coops, you and me both. The work has started on this with plaster bandage. I ran out of the stuff though so more is on order. Once that’s complete, I’ll do the track ballasting for this area and I need to put a surface on the roads to and then it’ll be time to get the static grass out.
Thank you Geoff, quite happy to be compared to Jim when it comes to weathering.

Just got round to looking at your excellent girder construction video.
You mention rivet strips in it (and they are also mentioned on the previous page of this thread) - Slaters do a sheet of them (0431) at:
https://slatersplastikard.com/plastikard/embossed.php
I know I have one somewhere, and if I could only find it I would give you more info. about it!

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout
Managed to find my rivet sheet, and as you will see it comes with a variety of rivet sizes and spacing - you just cut out your required length/width.

Now there's something I've never seen before, that may come in very handy in the future. Thanks

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout
Thanks Ex-pat, I wasn’t even aware Slaters did it. I think I’ll order a sheet when I’m next getting brick card and at least it’ll be in stock for further metal making.
