GWR BRANCHLINE...EXE VALLEY

Postby DAVE1562 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 5:49 pm

Hi all...further progress on my N gauge GWR themed branchline...it now has a name,Exe valley. i have made a few track changes from original plan to use a single hh gaugemaster with simulation brake and do away with a troublesome double crossover...kept on derailing stock.all track is still loose laid as yet.
i have nearly wired all mainloom but still have seep point motors to fit and wiring for streetlights etc, momentary point switches and isolation switches are wired and fitted, magnetic uncouplers are still yet to be sorted...heres a few pictures.......

Thats some very neat wiring... mine always starts with the best of intentions but ends up looking like an explosion in a spagetti factory

Hi all quick update on build... more wiring of seep point motors carried out and have ordered some more, removed the long loop so now it is a single line and reversed siding into main station which looks better it will allow me to add a engine shed and goods shed...had a go at a bit of hill making using newspaper and watered down pva..came out quite well but will cover with plasterbandage to make it more solid.i will turn the l/h corner into a tunnel when track is fixed down but at the moment having problems with noisy track so it will have to wait.Had a go at assembling some ratio platforms which look better than the metcalfe kit which i originally bought..it has more detail and character...
Got some bargains of ebay..h/h controller, dapol auto coach and a nice 57xx 0-6-0 tank loco,my wife has also bought me a dapol 14xx tank and autocoach for xmas but not allowed to have it!!! untill then

Hi all ...more progress, ballasting nearly finished and ready for weathering, modroc applied to scenery and still in progress, unsure what method of rock face to use-cork,rock mold kit or sculpting plaster...any recommendations? a bit of kit building with a kestral goods shed and painting of platforms again just need weathering at some point, have ordered a ratio station and gwr station shed for main station and looking for something smaller for exe halt.

How big roughly is this? I almost wish I wasn't so against 'N' personally or I could plan for so much more than what I can fit in using 'OO'.

Great work btw, looking fantastic so far.

Hi nickbrad...the layout is in a u shape... 6ft x 6ft x 6ft and 1 ft wide 9mm mdf top boards covered in 2 mm cork and 9 inch high backboards, all come apart in 3 seperate tables if need be?...fits nice and snug in a spare area in the corridor,i chose n gauge due to space limitations and also like you said i could fit a lot in a small area. :D

Looking good! You're getting on better with your tunnel/hill than I seem to be!
