N gauge diorama

Postby Herr german » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:40 pm

While i am building my winterish layout, i thought i would try and build a quick diorama out of odds and ends i found in my shed. Its not much, it only measures 14 inches by 8 inches in old money. I drew a few quick sketches to see what i could squeeze into the space and once happy with the design i drew up a plan to see if everything i wanted could be accommodated.
In the plan i found room for a small river, or canal, a tunnel and a road. The diorama has a double track going over the river/canal, the track then curves into a tunnel with the road planned to go across the board from back to front above the track as it goes into the tunnel,.
The track is not powered, the diorama will be for display only and will also let me try out different scenic tecniques.

It looks very well built. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

A bit more work done over the last few evenings, the fascia boards are all in place and the track base has been glued down. The bridge has been placed to gauge how much space i had available to decide whether to go with canal or river, still debating on that one.
The tunnel is in the process of being made ready for painting.
Pictures below show the how it is progressing so far.

Scenics now started around the river area, just waiting for the plaster bandage to fully dry before the painting can begin and the river complete before the bridge can be fully glued in palce and the track can be glued down and ballasted.

It's coming along very well. The canoeists are a great addition!

Bit more work done on the diorama last week, polystyrene glued in place around the tunnels for both rail and road, Since this was done the polystyrene has been carved and covered in plaster bandage and was ready for scatter material which has been done earlier this week. Next update will be soon!!

well the quick diorama started this month is now complete. I don't think it has come out too bad from bits and bobs found in the shed. I think i only spent around £10.00 for the kayakers on the river. Please feel free to pass comment, good or bad.

Trees planted, river varnished, only really the fascia boards to stain at a later date, now where are those trains?
