I do like your idea for your station This is something I am considering or possibly metcalfe, my dad is a joiner so I have access to a range of tools.

What height is the platform??

The platform height is 18mm which is spot on for train height. I got the wood from B & Q 70mm wide by 18mm high & just shaped it using panel saw etc. is a really cheap way to build platforms as only cost £3 for the length. Will post pics when I get them covered with scalescenes platform.

Have you considered using textured paint by green scenes for the platforms?? I'm currently experimenting with some paint, PVA glue and sand mixed??

Hi a good day today after a month of building finally run some trains !! Only ran 3 so far First Scotrail class 158, Northern Rail class 153 & class 37 Radio Highland. All run great & its nice to run trains as opposed to building. Will test run class 58 coal sector & intercity passenger train at the weekend. ONly completed inner loop so far, hopefully complete outer loop this weekend. Came up with a good idea for connecting power to the rails, instead of using ugly power clips I soldered a wire onto each rail giving a good connection, also is invisible to the eye.
Thanks for your advice with the platforms will look at green scenes paint, might be good having textured platforms

HI everyone, bit more progress this weekend. Got all track finally laid & wired up but not run a train on it yet. Also got station platforms finished. I eventually covered them with scalescenes platform print off & am pleased with the result as shown in the photos. Looks realistic although needs a bit of weathering- Not sure about the station though looks small compared to the long platforms.

Hi Keith,

station is looking good. In particular I like the bay platform.
Also I wouldn't worry about the length of the platforms. Look at real stations! The platforms there are often also considerably longer than the actual station buildings.

Looks good to me too. Perhaps add a little building to the side of the station and maybe a platform shelter on the other side.

Thanks for all the messages. I have got the Skaledale east toilet/extension blocks but just didn't have them on. But layout is starting to look much better, Although would love to make it much bigger, for a better depot/ fiddle yard, more station sidings, mutli-levels etc. But will have to wait for permanent attic layout for that. Ran most of my trains on it last night as follows-
Scotrail Class 158
Northern Rail class 153
Orient Express & 3 coaches (my favourite)
Radio Highland class 37
BR Intercity 225 class 91

(remaining locos to run- Coal sector class 58, BR class 37 with BR mk 1 coaches & class 105 br green DMU).
Locos & train packs I wish to get Bachmann Virgin Voyager, Hornby class 08 super detail EWS or Intercity & hornby black 5 weathered with coaches & coal wagons.

All ran well although Orient express is not keen on curved points cannot be taken too fast & the class 153 keeps derailing at curved points. The curved points are older Hornby ones R640 & R641, has anyone else had the same 153 derailing problem & come up with a solution?

Just read the thread from start to finish (i know its 3 pages but its a lot for me! ) and i gotta agree with the guys.
Great Progress being made and love the bay platform! all it needs in there is a buffer complete with warning signal or tail lamp!

Hi i like the bay platform too. wasnt sure wether to make it single or twin but i like the single better. Will have buffers etc to put on it but will concentrate on village areas next the maintenance depot area, then valley next, so all areas are roughly complete then return to do finer detailing/weathering etc.
BTW can anyone help me with this? The ballast mats looks very clean & new. Was wondering the best way to weather it & muck it up dirt etc & mossy areas etc, can anyone offer some ideas?

Hi all. little bit more progress have laid all buildings out in village area on layout. Think it looks ok but i feel as though something is missing to give it the x factor lol. Might have rethink on village layout.
Decided on layout name - Winterhope Junction & village is called Winterhope. Not decided on depot name yet
