The CASSR branchline

Postby Ark Royal » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:28 am

Hi all

Welcome to the CASSR Branchline, a fictitious branchline on dartmoor. my friend named it the CASSR, which (according to him) stands for the C**p, Awful and slightly S**t Railway. (apologies for the language) I disagree and think it actually stands for the Cuplinton And Stamford Spinney Railway (both real places on Dartmoor)
I chose Datmoor because I would quite like to build a LARGE vaiduct as part of the, as yet, hypothetical extention in the future, and I like the idea of making the one at pendon
thats all for noe

photos to follow

thanks

Chris

The Track plan Im using is loosely based on Ashburton from C.J.Freezer's book about designing model railways (no I can remember what it was called, but it was written in about 1997). It is a single track Branch Terminus, but due to a long and convaluted history that I will post in a few days time, it has a heavy enough axel loading for ANY big 4 or BR loco. this meant that all of the Big 4 + BR used it (also because of the steep gradients) as a testing ground for new locos. The headshunts are long enough for a king arthur, or (just) a beyer garrett.

The Layout is 16ft by 2ft, with a possibility of scenic extention boards at a later date. the end 4 or 5 ft is a fiddle yard, and the other 11/12 ft is scenic.
the plan is to have a the track about 6 in in from the near edge of the board, with a bank at the front; and at the back, there will be a village street, which slopes up a hill. the tracks will the dissapear under an over-bridge into the fiddle yard, with a lift-off scenic board over the fiddle yard.
all that should become marginally clearer when I show you the first board, which hass all the key features on it

Thanks

Chris

Hi all

Im intending to spray the platforms tomorrow morning, they're made of Balsa, and I have been told that I dont need priming.
Does anyone have any advice on the subject of airbrishing that I would find It useful to know

I have masked off everything that I dont want sprayed (i.e. the track) and Im gonna do it in the garden tomorrow morning (when its light)

Thanks

Chris

Sorry! I do apologise  I got mixed up with another "ark royal" from this forum.

Never the less, this is looking to be a rather nice layout.
