I'm not jealous! A friend of mine looks after the live Shack at Coventry, wonderful machine. The 'wreck' started out as a Revell (ex-Frog) Shack MR3, but I had to 'borrow' its wings for another model project, so its fuselage will be finding its way to the scrapyard. Once I've built the scrapyard that is...!

There uses to be a scrapyard in Elgin down the road from Lossiemouth next the station that had many an RAF fuselage or wing sitting around, an aircraft scrapyard is a wonderful break from the norm of some class 50 front ends and assorted railway bits,,,,

Put it this way, I've found some more inmates for the yard, including a couple of 'life exed' Lightnings. It'll be like Hanningfield Metals used to be, with some scrap cars and railway stuff thrown in for good measure too...

Very little progress to report this week, certainly nothing worth photographing. I've re-laid some of the track to the shed, and finished the scenery work for the derelict siding (see the 'end of days' thingy in the kit builds section). I've not even been able to play either as both controllers have gone u/s and need the attention of my soldering iron. No problem, you may think. Well guess what? that's gone u/s too. Typical... :x

Good to see the ol' bird running around your layout! :)

Wish I could be playing with some trains too, but at the moment I'm in the process of selling my place so everything is all boxed up... Hopefully if all goes to plan I'll have more space so I can get a proper build thread on here...

In the meantime, sorry to hear about your controller issues... however... and this could be a long shot... I came across a hornby controller up in my loft... don't know if it works, but if you like I can send it over to you if you need one. It certainly worked the last time I used it... last century sometime :)

Cheers,

Jimmy

Told you she was going to a good home Jimmy, glad you approve. I'll get a couple of better pics of her up soon. As to the controllers, my old soldering iron has been found, so it'll be brandished in anger at the controllers tonight as I'll be home. I may take you up on the controller anyway, one of mine's an old lima and it's all or nothing!

I did forget to mention one piece of successful engineering, obviously one side of my turntable won't be used so I decided to box it in using card to look like a concrete walkway, with railings around the edge again courtesy of Jimmy. I'll get some brick paper round the edge then photograph it to see what you guys think. It's all card glued down sparingly, so if/when I come to move the turntable the covered over track spurs will be perfectly reuseable.

What i use for concrete is this ready mixed filler which is a light grey. I spread it, let it dry then sand if necessary. when done scribe lines to look like the expansion joints.

Looks rather good Harry, cheers for the tip :)
Well the soldering iron was brandished in anger last night, and the net result is that both controllers are now functional once more. Which makes me considerably happier than I was with all things railway last weekend...

Progress this weekend has been limited to fettling some of the small scenery items, with the scrapyard inmates prepared and some items for the station and freight depot painted up. The Mrs' Hall class has had a motor change and can finally show an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping a clean pair of heels! Yesterday's acquisitions mean that an evening of engineering beckons tonight. There may be an ale or 2 consumed also, which will have to be kept well out of the reach of Bert! ;)

A little progress to report. I've done a bit of looking and thinking, and waving sets of points around in the vicinity of the layout. Whether anything gets changed or not will remain to be seen however, I've till the weekend to decide anyway.
There has been, as mentioned in the previous post, been some work on small items for the railway. The luggage carrying trucks, sack barrows and scales are now partly painted
Image
And most of the inmates for the scrapyard have now been prepared
Image
Most of yesterday's work was aimed at restoring a Black 5 acquired at the weekend. It was loco only, and had been crudely brush painted in matt green. I stripped the body off, removed the hand rails, and returned it to black. While it was apart the running gear got a good oiling and adjusting up too.
With the handrails and whistles polished up and back in place it looks a whole load happier, and just needs its numbers.
Image
The tender was acquired for 2 quid and is next for attention, as it really wants re-decalling. At some point I'd like to get a power tender for the Black 5 (if anyone's got one gathering dust...?!) so it can run under its own steam so to speak, but at the moment I'm quite happy with the idea of it being a dummy loco for double heading. Here Pendennis Castle takes it for a look around the layout.

Hopefully something a bit more exciting to report next week folks!

Found it, on the platform, behind the third one from the right!
