Re: Southern Valley Railway- Going Underground

Postby OliverSR » Mon Oct 31, 2011 12:55 pm

This is my layout which I have named the Southern Valley Railway. Themed around BR Southern region with one main station, one through station(theemed around the bluebell railway) and one terminus station. Also I have good sheds and carriage sheds. This is not aimed to be detailed rather to be functional and fun to operate. Is is analogue but I plan to upgrade to digital in the future.

Whilst Making some ballast loads for my trucks to provide an alternative to the coal ones I usually run. I thought whilst I have the paints and other kit out i would do up a old hornby hut I had picked up a while ago.
This is what the hut looked like before I set to work on it. As you can see it has no roof but I planned to make one out of plasticard.

This shows it after a few coats of paint. I used humbrol Hornby Rail colours pullman umber for the wood, Br green for the door and BR roof grey for the chimney. It is glazed with some spare glazing from a hornby building of some kind which I had lying around.

This shows it finished I have cut and glued on the roof made from plasticard and painted the same colour as the chimney.

It is now finished and will be placed somewhere on my railway.
And so ends another of my little projects.

Some more photos showing the sorting out of the track before being put away and the boards can be rebuilt. These are not only slightly flatter but have been painted better and so have a more even colour. The board is now also a different shape designed to fit the shape of the room better and it allows for wider radius curves.

This shows the proposed original track plan though many improvements have been made since this was drawn up.

I like the new plan you're working from Oliver. I think it'll give you much more operational interest.

Also thats a slick video, getting right down to track level bring the best out of your stock & buildings.

Though I think any occupants in a car at the level crossing would get a fright, the way it flexes when a train crosses

Steve

I just watched the video again and I see what you mean.
That doesn't happen any more though as the track has been pinned down properly now (not just the drawing pins I use to pin it down till I am happy with it).
I do like getting down to ground level and watching the trains and I think that the shots with the level crossing in it is my favourite place to record from as it seems to make it all seem more life like.

I thought I would update you on the layout. The DCC upgrade and subsequent layout rebuild is done long ago.
Here are some photos of the layout last year when I had a photo session. Many changes have been made since these were taken, of course

and here is my attempt of a more interesting shot with my more Cornish locos

more photos to follow,
who knows maybe I will get my thread up to current time soon, as I have been telling the story of my layout from the beginning.

Here is a photo of a visiting loco which I was testing after fitting a chip for a friend. If you look carefully you can see a certain loco in the background.

and here is the trackplan for the layout as it currently is.

A few more sidings have been added and the bluebell station has been redesigned to provide more space.
