Shawbury BR 1988-91ish in N guage

WOW, that looks awsum Chris
How did you manage to paint it? I thought it was a OO model at 1st,

All done with Holts Duplicolor car paint. The body shell was stripped with Mr Muscle (after removing the lighting units, cab interiors and glazing). The grilles are TPM photoetch items fitted after sanding off the old grilles, then after grey primer, Fiat Broom Yellow for the cab ends, Rover Electric Blue for the main blue and Ford Polar Grey for the roof. If you're planning a 1980s large logo blue then Rover Teal is a better match, but mine is bluer to replicate EWS's version of BR blue. Decals are all from Fox transfers. TPM snowploughs and class 66 buffers are fitted, again to match the EWS fittings.

Shame you're ripping up the station. I really like it, but look forward to the replacement.

I'd really love to do 37426 'Y Lein Fach/Vale Of Rheidol' as I actually saw it being named at Aberystwyth back in 1986, i was only 8.......my god that makes me feel old . Thanks for that insight on how you did it....though I don't know if i'd have the guts to try it. I just hope Farish will do one at some point & i'll renumber & rename it.
I'm a bit gutted about ripping the station up, but after trying & testing it for the past few months, it just isn't doing it for me & nore is the area its based on (I think its because i've based all of my layouts on Shrewsbury since my 1st back in 1999), & the fact i'm a very indecisive person at the best of times
I'm hoping the new plan will prove to be better all round for me.

Thanks Guys.

I think its because I've based my layout on the same area each time, it has just become monotonous for me. I think the new idea feels more refreshing, & with a different range of passenger services too should keep me happy (I Hope ).
I'll more than likely be starting a new thread once work commences on the station, so watch this space....

I have the platform kit on order so they should be with me shortly, & hoping to make a start on ripping up the current station & track over the weekend. I don't need to touch the rest of the layout, so it shouldn't take too long to get the new station built. I'm yet to draw up a couple of plans.

Here's the new plan....i'm hoping to fit a 4th siding next to the station, though this will depend on how much room i have left once platforms are constructed. They're going to be quiet wide.

well I've been busy this morning ripping up the track & platforms of old Shawbury. Here's the last pictures I took before it was no more....

The platforms with all passangers & canopies removed

& finally the track. This is as far as i'm going with the track ripping, the signal box will remain a feature on the new plan, though may be moved a bit further down....we'll see

Some helpfull advice I had on removing the track was to use hot water on it before lifting the track. None of my track has been damaged & can all be re used
Just to get the hoover on the remaining ballast now, & wait for my Platform kit & a couple of new sets of points to arrive....Then Chester Northgate will begin

your model is good a great layout, some of this looks scratch built you dont need to worry about modelling skills, you have the talent.

Hi Guys,

well thankyou all for all the positive come back . I've already started joining track together for the new station. I'm just waiting for a couple of sets of points to arrive then I'll start tacking it down. Look out for the new thread which will be called 'Chester Northgate BR 1987 - 92', which I will start as soon as the trackwork for the new station is pinned down.
Most of Shawbury sation was scratch built using card, clear plasticard & brick paper from metcalf. The Platforms are all metcalf Platform Kit, & the new pack has arrived . I'm saving most of the buildings I created such as the station front & the buildings along Platform 5. These will be used in some way in the new station. the canopies won't be, I'll be constructing all new canopies, though may be able to use the current one's for some of the glazing.

Hi pal... Just read your thread from the beginning and was going to say how impressed I am and how good it looks, then I get to the end and it's ripped up...
But I can only imagine the new version looking at the polan will be even better. You've certainly got a good eye for detail and good hands judging by the scratchbuilding...
