Hi there,

I am liking the new layout design but my question is, where is the road going to go after the double level crossing after it's left the top platform? As the road will fit the new sidings you have planned :)

Hi all,
Well the extension is on the table and the track is down. I altered the design again slightly from my original idea. I will upload a picture of the new track plan soon. For now have a look at my latest YouTube video at: http://youtu.be/ulVl7wTFG3Q It shows the new extensions to the layout, a Control deck under construction, and also a look over all my locomotives that I own. Thought I was done with the ballasting and drop wires but now I have a heap more to do along with 10 more sets of points at least to wire up. Oh well such is the joy of being a model train lover :)

Thanks,
Dwarfboysim

Hi,
Thanks for the question. I have been keeping a rough tally of how much I have spent should I ever need to replace it all. Bare in mind that this does not include hours of labour as a cost just table, track, loco's, rolling stock etc etc.

To date it comes in over $10,000.

Thanks,
Dwarfboysim

Hi Dwarfboysim
Don't do it :D you will end up with a VERY BIG SURPRISE like I got when you find out how much the grand total is when the layout is complete (Note I did not say finished).
When I was young single and still living with my parents and modeling in "N" scale.
I kept tabs on how much I was spending for insurance purposes.
Suffice to say it never got insured because the premiums where just far to High.
The total I got to before I stopped watching it was $19,000
To put this figure into perspective at that time, that kind of serious money would have bought a Three Bed room One Bath room house on a 1/2 acre block and completed garden to the fashion of the day.
That required nothing more than a re paint and then only if you did not like the color.
Obviously this was not all spent at once, but it is very surprising how fast a couple of dollars here and a couple of dollars there mounts up.
Maybe I should have bought the house :D , Hmm but that would not have been as much fun as the trains :D
regards John.

Hi again Dwarfboysim,
Ive been busy on my layout and my dad and i reckon its going well. I only have some weekends to work on it seeing as i have to go to school. Year 9 is so stressful :D finished the hill this morning and got most of the track. Got some more rolling stock and chipped the turntable aswell. My inspiration is from your layout as its so cool :)
Thanks,
Elliott

WOW looks like you have been really busy. Some great progress there. I have been mainly doing track cleaning, engine servicing and preparing the extension for cork etc recently. Have to buy in a big lot of point motors soon as well. Look forward to watching as it progresses.

Hi,

This is my first post and I must say that your layout is awesome.

I just brought a Thomas pack and all the track expansion packs for my 4 year old god son (he is a train nut and having spinal bifida and being mildly handicapped, I spoil him rotten) and I am looking forward to setting up the 1600x1200 layout. I think that I will eventually setup a custom layout for him as he gets older.

I would love to do something like this for him as he absolutely loves Thomas at this point in time, but I also think that even in the future, as he grows out of the thomas phase, he could use this sort of layout for using other types of trains.

I will definitely be keeping up to date with your work... keep it up :)

Hi Dwarfboysim,
I have been very busy on my layout yesterday and today, had to bring it down from the loft because it froze and have made it much smaller, from 10x6 to 5x2. Its just a basic fiddle yard with a few buildings and scenery appearing here and there. I now have 16 locos out of the 22 from Hornby and 4 from Bachmann:
Hornby:
Thomas
Henry
Gordon
James
Percy
Toby
Duck
Oliver
Stepney (Limited Production)
Bill
Ben (in the post :))
Arry
D7101 (Bear)
D261 (The Diesel)
Devious Diesel

Bachmann:
Salty

The collection is definitely expanding, how is your layout aswell? Could you possibly post some photos soon? Looking forward to the next video of your layout.
Thanks,
Elliott

Hi all,
Currently out of action due to nursing a broken hip. Had a heap planned that I wanted to do to my layout but I am on crutches for at least the next six weeks. Also going to miss out on a train show I wanted to go to. I have started to put the underlay under the outside loop and have bought some more Skaledale platform to build a station near the Engine yard. Once I can get back out to the layout and sit comfortably I will get stuck right back into it.

Thats about it for now from hop a long

Thanks.

Hi all,
Well it's been a long time but I am almost at the stage in my recovery to start getting back into the layout. I have managed to do a small amount of work and added 2 long carriage sidings running off from the third loop. Pictures and video to come soon as I get back into it.

Thanks for following.

Hi all,
Apologies for the lack of updates. Work and my daughter have kept me busy. Had a week off work so got stuck into the layout. The cork underlay around the third loop and engine yard is now complete. Starting work on the DCC droppers soon.

Hi all,
Not much to report. Work and family life still keeps me very busy. Have found a bit of time recently though to get some work done on the layout. The underlay on the 3rd loop and engine yard is now complete. DCC droppers have been installed to the track and the track has been pinned down. Next step is the point motors before ballasting commences. I took the time though to give some trains a well earned run around the layout. Attached below is a link to a brief 3 minute video of Spencer and his coaches checking out the newly laid underlay and track: http://youtu.be/MGeQ7EkeVq4

Once again thanks for following and hope to have more updates soon.

Thanks,
Dwarfboysim
