Hi everyone,

Just a quick video this morning of some progress I've made with my road system. It is early stages but it's together enough for testing.

There will be more to follow on this but just wanted to post what I'd got to keep the forum updated

Thanks
Dan

Dan that is looking brilliant. There seems to be a nice speed set on the lorry. In some videos I've seen the vehicles seem to hurtle along at to fast a rate, particularly on the corners - is there a way of adjusting this? The scenery around the roadway is coming along a treat too, I love the detached house in the process of being constructed.

Great stuff and more videos please. :D

Hi Paul

Thank you for the comments. The lorry is as it came out the box (£65 from great electric train show this year). Seems a good speed. I have two other rigid lorries that were second hand. These are fitted with a small PCB which can adjust speed. I think I'd rather they went a little slower otherwise I may wander into 'toy' territory.

Detached house is a bachmann ready to plant item. Lovely present from a friend a couple of Christmases ago.

Dave, sorry the video doesn't work for you. Normally you just click the image. I'll post the link below directly to it:

For some reason I just get a blank page:

As others can see it, the problem must be at my end rather than yours Dan, I wouldn't worry about it.

Dave,

Photobucket has been painfully slow for me just recently. Both uploading and viewing. Maybe more of a problem with them that either of us.

Thanks
Dan

The first link didnt work for me either but the second seemed to, although i had to give is a moment as photo bucket seems to be rather slow lately - either that or full of popups

I am now off to google the car system as it works brilliantly, really cool feature that you have managed to implement really well around the rest of your layout - i doubt i will have the room for it but i can dream

I love that!
Sound installation anyone?
Also finding photobucket very slow and full of popups, but I've only just created my account, so can't comment on whether it is getting better or worse..

Thanks for the comments.

My method for the roads is:

-Superglue the guide wire to the baseboard
-Use Woodland Scenics 'Paving Tape'
-Mix and use Woodland Scenics 'Smooth It'
-Wait to dry
-Sand Surface smooth
-Paint / Weather

I also have come up with a way of directing traffic. I punch the centre pin out of a Seep point motor. I pivot a piece of the guide wire from the direction of travel and bend down through a hole into the Seep motor. You can now set two directions from this. I cover the whole area / mechanism with thin plasticard and build the road over it. Works well.

Magnets on a pivot under the road stop the vehicles with the built in reed switch.

Faller make 'Stopping places' and 'Point motors' but they are £25 upwards. Mine were basically free as the point motors were left over from another layout

Hope this helps someone looking to build a road network.

Thanks
Dan

Fitting sound may be possible in the artic lorry but the smaller rigids are nearly full of motor and batteries. The Tractor I have is stuffed with a motor in the cab and I do not own any small vans or cars yet.

Would be cool to hear the MB Actros chugging around though

Thanks

As others have said, the road and lorry look fantastic :D - brings a whole new dimension to a layout. And very interesting about the 'directing traffic' too.

Though I have to say Photobucket looks absolute rubbish  = very slow to load, extremely jerky throughout, and then a full page advert covered the image! Suggest YouTube is a much better host to show off your videos . . .
