Right, work is progressing slowly on the layout, a storage shelf has been put up above the fiddle yard to hold my collection of locos, and buffer-stops are being constructed for the end of the platform roads. 46521's loco-tender coupling has been shortened, new coaches have been weathered, and a friends small collection of diesel locomotives have been detailed.
Pictures
An overall view, 46521 is arriving with a passenger train whilst a friend's class 45 awaits to run light to the fiddle yard.
A photo of the two diesels, a Deltic and class 45, both bought by a friend with no detail whatsoever, luckily ViTrains supply more than required with the class 37 and 47...
Right, bit of a play-around and the acquisition of yet another reporting number panel created this positive likeness, eventually I shall have to get a model of 6695 for myself one day
The obligatory Truro shot, not done one for a while...

Can I ask, regarding your Fiddle yard, how can you tell when a loco gets to the end of the line (apart from the slight crash?) do you have like a cctv system? or is it only a short wall that it goes through?

At this moment in time it takes a flexible neck to look around the door to see the progress of the train, in time, I shall find a way of automatically stopping the trains at the right moment, perhaps isolating the end...trainsandco wrote:Can I ask, regarding your Fiddle yard, how can you tell when a loco gets to the end of the line (apart from the slight crash?) do you have like a cctv system? or is it only a short wall that it goes through?
Right, Bit of an update, The end of the layout has been plain lined, i.e. the loco release points taken out, this was partly due to the fact that wiring was becoming ever increasingly complicated, a collective of mates thought it was more operationally interesting to shunt release, and now I can run 5 coach trains as standard...
As can be seen here, the PVA is still drying on the ballast on the far road, hmmm, cuppa time
The Bay platform is to go ahead, to be used for trips to the "Quay", i.e. the second entrance to the fiddle yard, this will be done at a later stage, in the meantime the line will be used as a headshunt...
And some more random visiting, and resident train pics...
This visitor was something special...

ahhh ok

Is that because you've run out of dynamite to get through the wall? The Bay platform is to go ahead, to be used for trips to the "Quay", i.e. the second entrance to the fiddle yard, this will be done at a later stage, in the meantime the line will be used as a headshunt...

Haha, Does look rather 'blasted' does the current hole I admit, Its one of those future projects, a layout is never finished, and therefore this will be stage 2 so to speak, I have plans for a low-level stage 3 eventually..!trainsandco wrote:ahhh ok

Re: Port Erth; Progress, Workbench and General Photos
Right, bit of a gap since the last update, although playing trains with 12" to the foot scale Bulleid pacific down south may have got in the way...
Few shots to show some new purchases and the expansion of the fiddle yard.
75001 was an ebay purchase split from the Bachmann 25th Anniversary set (will soon become the Bluebell's 75027), the first coach is a Bachmann LMS Brake in BR maroon, and the signalbox is the Scenecraft 'Highley' version, thinking about painting it in BR(W) Chocolate and Cream, a preserved railway set in the late 50's right?!
The 56xx in this view is a Bachmann 6622 split from the train-set you can get, as bought from a mate, it was heavily weathered, so this was stripped down, and, just to see what it looked like, a large BR Early crest was applied to the tankside, I think it looks rather smart, if completely inauthentic. In the background can be seen my new NSE 108 DMU.
And the new fiddleyard space, hopefully to be filled with track aplenty...!

Nice video old chap! Have you actually worked out a track plan for the fiddle yard in your mind yet? Just wondered too whether you were going to try and use some form of remote operation to save you having to leg it out there all the time
Cheers mate, looking forward to the next step as always

Infrontcat;
The fiddle yard roads have isolated sections of track towards the end, about a loco length from the buffers, to stop trains automatically, no more accidents! Plus when the rest of the lines are in place, coupled with point motors, I should be able to run a sequence of say 5 trains from the layout end and not have to go to the fiddle yard.
Progress is slow due to cash constraints, but the plans for platform number 2 and the quay branch bay are in place ready for when I next get paid.
One picture to show you of a re-numbered 75001 (Now 75027) stood at the platform, this loco has been detailed and the underframe weathered.
