Black and white - well. GREY - is how I really remember railways...

The world was mostly GREY then...

Small and basic scenics continue - the original (and little praised here!) scouring pads make a good surface for scatter and lichen, I think!

Yup, the texture seems about right - much better than plain card. And even adding scatter, cheap as chips (not that they are, chips, that is!).

Hi whynot
That looks much better now the mono tone green is gone.
I take it the hedge is the same stuff folded over.
I am sure I read some where of the toy soldier players making very nice hedges, and hedge
rows with scouring pad using card for the hedge trunks and base.

Thank you - the bare scourers only ever intended as temporary! And the hedges are, well, hedges, cheap on the ebay and dusted with scatter. Join two together for added height. Laid "flat" make OK verges. All just learning-on-the-cheap....

Hi whynot
I think the use of pot scourer is a good idea given what is in your latest batch of pics
Don't be to quick to dismiss it.
It's like any other model material its not what it is, it's what you can make it be.
Given the cost that the hobby can rack up very quickly anything that can be made helps, and also contributes to the
all important character of the layout also gives a point of difference.
As well as lowering the cost.

Just so! It's the whole "creation" thing that I'm slowly learning - and what use to hand or brain is simply going and buying everything?! Without the thinking and experimenting elements I'd very soon get bored.

And just skimmimg back thro' the photos above makes me feel that I'm at least moving forwards!

Thanks.

I echo the comments about the pan scourers - and if you had some sort of wall at the front edge of the board to hide the edge of the pan scourer then I doubt that many, if any, would now realise what they are without knowing the full story.

The front edge is a "problem" area! I have to cover the whole thing most of the time - and the top has to be sloping to keep the cat (and her visiting friends) off it. Present lid rests on the front edge - so I need to design and build new tops for both halves when I get the inspiration!

Hi Whynot,

Like your work! I too have to use what I can find at the moment, but I think it makes it more interesting anyway :)

this may be obvious to some but i was wondering where you get the building scenes from in the background? are they scratch built?

36 "trees" for 99p (and a bit of scatter n glue). Though I'm not sure where to put any more!
